FTP which is an acronym for File Transfer Protocol is a computer program that enables you to transfer or exchange files between computers on a network or to access online software archives. An essential part of the website setup process is publishing it online, which includes uploading its files to the server where the website is planned to be located.

One of the quickest and easiest ways to do it is by accessing the server via FTP. To establish an FTP connection you need an FTP hosting account where you can upload your files. In order for the users to be able to connect to the host server through an FTP client, they need to have rights to access that server. These authorization access rights are assigned to users in the form of FTP accounts. Each FTP account consists of a unique username and password granting users access to the files to the special cPanel account on the server.

FTP account is automatically created in cPanel when you sign up for a hosting cPanel account or create an addon domain. So, by default, you already have an FTP account in your cPanel. Use your cPanel username and password to log into it.

If your FTP progam is not connecting properly, here are some possible reasons:

1. your firewall could be blocking it.

2. make sure you have the ip in your welcome email for host name. (only the numbers don't add ftp, www or anything else.)

3. make sure your username and password match what is in your welcome email.

4. some ftp programs require a path in order to connect. Your path would be /home/putYOURusernamehere/public_html
