Ankara, which is also referred to as “Dutch wax“, “Holland wax” and “African/Ghana print” is a 100% cotton fabric with vibrant colour.

The material is primarily associated with Africans because of it’s wild tribal like patterns and motifs.

Not a day goes by that we do not come across somebody wearing ankara, brightly colored native outfit with brilliantly abstract designs.

From our motor parks, higher institutions, boutiques, street corners and business premises there is always a trace of this unique fabric.

Since it’s ascension into the global fashion scene in 2010, much debate has been held about the true origins of the fabric, whether it is truly of Africa.

NATURE OF THE FABRIC
Ankara fabrics are made through an Indonesian wax-resist dying technique called batik.
