Closing your eyes when praying is NOT required but strongly recommended if that would help you to concentrate.

After giving serious thought to the matter and considering some passages in the Scriptures, I'm yet to figure out why closing ones eyes is a requirement when praying.


Secondly, I don't think it was expressly stated in the scriptures that we should pray with our eyes closed.


How did the practice of closing ones eyes originate?

Is it a sin if one prays without closing his or her eyes?

Everyone is just guessing, saying whatever that comes to his/her head. A simple proof would solve this question. Those that have the knowledge of the bible should bring bible verses from the scripture.

Praying means you are switching from physical to spiritual interaction, cos bible says that those that worship lord shall do so in truth and spirit..

because beautiful things are not seen but felt

They appear concentrated and undistracted

Says who? they are not bro..Try this pls when they r praying try and wear a short trouser n pass u will see that u will be abuse...

All said and done, when we close our eyes we concentrate more on our spirit being in tune with God. If you have a very close relationship with God you can still open your eyes and communicate but there are some situations, nobody needs to tell you to close your eyes to pray.

However it's not a sin not to close ones eyes during prayer session but you get easily distracted when you open your eyes and you concentrate more with your eyes closed invariably only believers can understand this as you get carried away in God's presence when you concentrate with your eyes closed in your prayers

I may not know why closing eye for prayer by christians but comparing it with Islam cannot work. Islam has principle which is that anything act or worship must be done according to how it was done by prophet Muhammad; peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him.
That is why someone cannot just come up with new things in the religion.

Non of the you could give simple reference to the act of worship from the bible and yet this is widely practice among the Christians. what a pity!!!!
