Ben Murray Bruce is the expert politician at pointing out problems. Why was he elected if all he's going to do is talk and take no action. The guy needs to step down and go back to just running Silverbird Galleria or is it Silverbird Cinemas abeg.

It is really sad to be a Nigerian, this man Ben is 100 percent right, it is only a fool and a buffon will see the truth and ignore it. I hope and I have prayed not to see the calamity that is waiting for us if we failed to re structure. I see it repeating coming again the same calamity as it happened in the days of Noah and Sodom and Gommorah repeating itselves in Nigeria.

Yes o!

But we can still make hay while the sun is still shinning. Factories and heating systems all over the world would still rely on fossil fuel, 'AfroAsian' Countries with poor electric generation would still rely on fuel for over 50 years. With influx of cheap vehicles moving into the continent very soon due to the policy.

(But Ben Bruce like talk than actions sha)
This is where u are mistaken. You see, if the oil market becomes glutted, your oil won't be worth sh!t. And there goes our only source of revenue. Where will the money to buy the "cheap" cars come from. With a relatively high crude price , Fed and state governments are struggling to foot bills.

Honestly you are the only one that has made a sound comment. The man was saying the correct thing and pointing the way forward, instead most of the comments here are busy insulting him.

The man is very correct. If Nigeria doesn't get her act, I am very sorry for what will befall this nation.

Anyway for me I am not even waiting for any government, I am going on with my own diversification strategy. Planning ahead for the future of my business and Companies. Because based on what is on the ground, serious danger is ahead.

Let's start with uninterrupted power supply 1st.
Most countries in the word don't have crude and they have been looking for ways to reduce the cost and use of crude oil.
That is why they have been working tirelessly on developing cars and other machines that don't use fuel etc.

The effect this will have on oil producing countries is the fall of crude oil price and a heavy drop on demand of crude oil.
The solutions to these problems that will hit us sooner or later are :
1) diversification of the economy
2) the government should invest on other sectors of the economy
3) an efficient and effective means of power supply since our hydro electricity can barely provide the country with 24hrs uninterrupted power supply.
4) I've heard a lot of people say agriculture but cost of importing agricultural inputs is high because of custom duties Etc.
5) we should only export finished agricultural products because this will increase our total revenue. Eg it is better we produce chocolate and export it than exporting cocoa and importing chocolates.

Senator Bruce made very salient points on the need for Nigeria to diversify her economy, create visionary plans and make developmental agendas the thrust of public policies.

However and unfortunately so; I read some silly comments maligning the Senator and which did not address the points raised in any objective manner.

We as Nigerians must be able to review statements and react with objectivity and not infantile abuses and total disrespect for opposing views.

I need to find Ben Bruce twitter handle to tell him he has no sense, even if Nigeria becomes dumping ground for petrol cars, it will create more job opportunities while switching to electric cars will fuel more corruption

Why do you want Nigeria to become a dumping ground for petrol cars, is the alarming rate of cancer not enough warning that we need to detoxify our environment.

Now, good point you've made
But let's not delusional and sweep our undoings under the carpet, these other guys didn't just attain their status in a few years, they went through phases, tho we necessarily don't have to take as long as it took em
But will the integration of all these tech and advancements take us time? Bitter truth is YES!
Real time oo, proper implementation, not some wild dreams o
200mil people?
What is our literacy rate?
Even the so called literate, 80% re stuck in the '80s

Furthermore, do you know the number of engines that uses fossil fuels in the world today?
Those that are still being manufactured?
Even if they'll want to start swapping combustion engines for electric motors, only vehicles that was produced in recent times would easily be converted
A lot of countries would still run on fuel for the next 30yrs
I say we take 15yrs to dominate and exploit the oil market since the major players would have already moved to electric and renewable energy, these doesn't stop us from using proceeds to fund the integration of Electric and renewable energy

Verily, I tell you fellow country man, if we leap to start moving at their pace without first setting a strong foundation, we'll crash

Listen must Africa always play the catch up, why cant we be brave and bold for once to even leapfrog the white man.. at least it is an incontestable fact that civilization started in Africa.
We may soon enter the era of buy one barrel of oil get 1,000 free... if our leaders don't wake up!
