Democracy Day: Persecution Of Perceived Enemies Must Stop -saraki by Otunbalarry: 10:36am On May 29, 2018
NEWS DIGEST – Senate President, Bukola Saraki has thrown a shot in his Democracy day speech. Mr. Saraki urged that while the Country must continue to respect Democracy as a system of Government, it must ensure that continued persecution of perceived enemies of Government must stop. In a series of tweet on his official Twitter page, Saraki said some persons have been behaving like they are above the law and this must not be allowed to thrive.
“I would like us all to remember that Democracy is not just about elections. It also involves the rule of law, following due process, respecting and nurturing institutions. It is also unity of purpose while being accountable when we are in positions ” “History will not be fair to us if we allow our complacency to jeopardize democracy. We must all be able to speak out with strong voices on issues that constitute a danger to democracy. #DemocracyDay”
“These include abuse of office in a manner that suggests persecution and oppression of perceived enemies, stifling of free expression, undermining of democratic institutions, and impunity on the part of certain individuals who behave as though they are above the laws of the land.”
He also sought for peace to ensure development in the Country. “We cannot be celebrating #DemocracyDay without canvassing for caution on some recent negative developments in our polity, particularly as we prepare for next year’s general elections. These are significant challenges we face, but with our current combined efforts, I believe that we will bring greater development to the country.”
Senate President may have been referring to the current face-off between the senate and the Inspector General of Police, Idris Ibrahim which has led to lots of drama with the Senate recently meeting with President Buhari over same.

I really want to ask this question, why are Nigerians celebrating demoCRAZY, since demoCRAZY started Nigeria has been backward, gone are those days when our #naira was valuable, today #5 is as useless as nothing whereas this democracy we celebrating is making the country backward, unemployment, killings, economic meltdown, corruption. I think if democracy is not helping why not take Nigeria back to where it was during Nnamdi Azikiwe, Obafemi Awolowo, Tafawa Balewa, e.t.c

Yourself acclaimed democrat in Goodluck Jonathan toppled democratically elected governor of Adamawa state Murtala Abdulazeez Nyako with soldiers, DSS and police, he almost succeeded in toppling Amaechi with 5 lawmakers and Wike if not that Amaechi is a street man and a real politician with wise understanding he would have gone the same way of Nyako. Just like OBJ toppled Joshua Dariye of Plateau, Ladoja of Oyo, Alamieghasia of Bayelsa and your hero today Fayose of Ekiti. Has PMB toppled any elected governor? Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan are real enemies of democracy.

Nice copy quote from Garba Shehu.
Give him credit next time so you don't come out sounding like Buhari that plagiarized people in his speeches.

In politics, what's wrong in persecuting an enemy with skeletons in his/ her cupboard.

I sense game up in the statements of Dhameendra of Igbos.

God forbid, Saraki if you were the president, you would do more than persecute ur enemies.

We know you to be a hell of a ruthless politician who will stop at nothing to dominate within and outside his territory.

Saraki, a ruthlessly intolerant man like you cannot lecture Nigeria about the wiles of democracy.

You persecuted your perceived enemies in the Senate i.e. Ndume and Omo-Agege by suspending them unconstitutionally. And here you are crying foul as if you are in Ipata market or Mandate market.

Saraki, will you shut up!!!

You people will embezzle public fund and you won't want anti graft agency to investigate you.

Can you swear with your life after that the sources of your wealth are legit?

God punish all of you together.

A unique nature of Buhari from antiquity is the hypocritical persecution of real & imaginary political enemies.Read why IBB overthrow him on Aug.27.1985.
