Attentive to the history of this BMW 7 Series with V16 engine

BMW has always had an idyllic relationship with the V12 mechanics. Although it is in danger today, its efforts have kept it in the 7 Series for more than three decades. In fact, McLaren borrowed one of those blocks to put it on F1, a vehicle that made history. Now a very curious and relatively unknown story is discovered, that of this particular BMW 7 Series with V16 engine that came to light in 1987.

Zagato Raptor: this is the most special Lamborghini Diablo

Zagato is celebrating. This year marks its centenary and, therefore, we already review the best designs they have made throughout their history. Aston Martin also paid tribute to them through the DBZ Centenary Collection. Now, as a result of chance, the Zagato Raptor goes on auction, one of those one-offs that are not forgotten. Although RM Sotheby’s does not mention an estimated price, its exclusivity is expected to reach an exemplary figure.

The Zagato Raptor was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1996 and from the first moment surprised everyone. It was based on the Lamborghini Diablo, although the Italian bodybuilder contributed that new and striking futuristic design. In fact, it was one of the first to be developed digitally, without the need for scale models. For this reason, the prototype was made in a record time of just four months.

The design was the work of Nori Harada, by Zagato, and had the collaboration of Alain Wicki, of Lamborghini. It stands out for that peculiar concept that allows having coupé and a convertible in the same body thanks to that roof system. On the one hand, the upper part can be removed, having access through scissor doors. On the other hand, if it is maintained, the roof and doors can be raised upwards to facilitate access. Of course, Zagato’s double bubble roof was well present.
