Precisely, Hausa and Yoruba people know exactly wat they are doing.

But, we dont like the idea of NigerDelta not enjoying the resources from their land.

We want them to have it all and it would be interesting to see if dey use it to develop NigerDelta like Dubai.

If dey dont, only God knows wat we will make of dem by the time the oil is obsolete.

Right now, we just feel really bad for dem and cannot blame dem if the resources becomes obsolete with Niger-Delta having nothing to show 4 it.

@ bolded, because they perhaps understand existence, longterm sustenance, profitability and most importantly posterity all have mutual/symbiotic relationship as their basics. This is why the way they approach economic and social problems is quite different. For instance, you will read about Lagos State government investing in agriculture in the north. I will call it "bilateral relationship" between the state. You must not have the proceeds or ownership from a resource before you enjoy the benefits of that resource fully. This is a major mistake the ND are making. They should stop seeing it like they are doing Nigerian or The oil companies a favor. There is always an alternative for survival!

Nonsense, they should all relocate to lagos the 2nd worst city to live in the world according to un.
They should take their pollution and lack of community care to lagos, lagosians may not care we in the delta do.
Of what use has their presence in the last 60yrs been in the life of niger delta region?
All their head offices has been in lagos for the past 60yrs so they are just going back home and we are happy with that.
At least lagos will now start to experience and reap the environmental issues alongside the benefit of the hosting the hqtrs.

But Y is it only Igbo people dat feel for NigerDelta and truily care about their environment?

Even me, i feel for dem, if i have the power, i will just give dem resource control immediately.

Yet, we hear Igbo want to dominate us propaganda fed to dem during Biafra War, especially from the likes of Edwin Clark.

But its the truth. The only reason you want to forcefully incorporate the oil rich lands of the Niger delta is so that you can control its wealth for yourselves, and not because you have any love for them. You Igbos don't even love yourselves, na niger delta una go come love? Luckily they can see through your plans

As much ND can cry about pollution ND has faults. Why didn't the state governments take these companies to court. Why didn't they put down stricter environmental regulations in their domain. Then with the money the received they should have cleaned up place.

Now shell is right ND in some ways to unstable. You have a bunch of militants destroying the environment since they are mad at government. These guys fight for their pockets and willing to chill out when the get amnesty checks. They don't care about local, state or National corruption with NDDC.

Yes having mineral rights in exclusive domain in federal government not good. It's better to have individual rights. Everyone will benefit more. The resource control jazz doesnt mean to much since federal government will still legislate on issue.

Mind u, NigerDelta is a part of the old SE state. We were together and have a history together before the British came and dragged the North and South West into the Bight of Biafra.

These are part people will ignore.

Weli wondered why the region was yet to develop despite benefiting from 13 per cent derivation and presence of establishments like the Niger Delta Development Commission; Niger Delta Ministry and Amnesty Programme.
“Investors are going to Lagos because of the choices the state government makes and the way they organise themselves and the confidence that gives to investors, which is the reverse in the Niger Delta.

“If Dangote could invest 18 billion dollars to build a refinery in Lagos that ordinarily should be sited in the Niger Delta, then the Niger Delta should be seriously concerned.

A 20 year court battle? Name the case. Even in Nigeria that's extreme. There's hardly an environmental case I've heard around world that takes that long.

Anyway do you have answer about why they didn't introduce higher environmental regulations. What stopped them from cleaning up environment and what exactly is NDDC job?

Nigeria sourced oil revenue for 50 years from a region.prioritized infrastructure development in Lagos, abuja and as some states in the north for over 30years.the region has delta, akwa ibom, bayelsa as new state (<15-),and somebody is asking for rapid development when derivation is less than 10years!

If the Federal government doesn't do something, I foresee a strong terrorist group more deadly than Boko Haram rising in the ND, they are complaining oil is drying up coupled with technological advancements, yet don't want to allow them manage their resources, when it eventually happens is when they would see doom.

Re: Shell Official Says Niger Delta Is No Longer Attractive To Investors by Blue3k(m): 11:41pm On Aug 20, 2017
Stupid politics is the issue with Nigeria not Shell. 10 years is long enough with good policy and leaders but ND didn't have that. The point about states age doesn't mean much they knew about these issues before becoming a state.

I don't even disagree a out having individual mineral rights and moving this issue out of exclusive list. Anyway what happened to telling me that court case?

Offshore vs onshore has that dichotomy everywhere. The argument where state boundaries extenda in ocean is interesting. In Texas it's 9 nautical miles then the rest is federal waters. This question will obviously effect taxation.

Ps: Are you really going say 10 years, heaps or cash and a whole commission isn't enough. Dude the pathetic stories I read in ND shows corruption and ineptitude is bigger issue. Seriously community complaining about roads, water, education and pollution shouldn't be issue. Lagos produces and haven't heard much headache from there regarding the companies.

like I said, approach matters. There are some fight you don't fight alone, you need the government by your side especially in a country like Nigeria if not it will end in vain such was the fight of Ken. Why did the river state govt not fight with him?

This is not 1960 anymore. In other climes, such parasitic system of governance is not practiced. You cannot distribute our wealth to the entire nation giving us peanuts and expect us to be all smiles with you.

Let other regions feed this nation for the next 60 years getting them crumbs in return, being marginalized with devastated lands in the process and let's see if there won't be hostilities.

In a system of anarchy, it is illegal to be law abiding - Gani (can't spell his surname grin).

The case of ND is just shooting one's leg. One of the key factors to site business in a location is security. Unfortunately ND areas are too volatile which scares investors away. I seriously don't know what they can do to attract any category of business magnets.

the only way to reduce flaring is either to reduce production which the FG will not agree with or monetise the gas which the oil companies are scared of. See nothing stops these oil companies from stopping flares, they are only scared of their investments. PIB has not been passed after how many years, then the ND wahala. No one will put his money into something that has odds of success in units. Is it not same oil companies that are investing billions of dollars in LNG is mozambique. That is what that man is saying. Everyday is one ND problem to another, so when will they have time to seat and discuss business. Did you read about NLNG ammendment and how the investors are not happy with it.. what happened to brass, what happened to OKLNG. Both the federal govt and ND are not helping matters.. the oil companies have little or no power here.

Whose aim s it to resolve issues? The ND says we want to controll our resources and pay tax to the federal government, the government says no. They say that oil companies should up their social responsibility ability, the oil company goes ahead to bribe government officials and everything is swept under the carpet. The little money that gets to the community are shared by chiefs and elders and you wonder why able bodied men go about bombing pipelines. My brother, don't worry, one day a company will come to your village and rape everything in sight, that day i will tell you to resolve issues with them. English is always easy when you're not at the receiving end of grave injustices.

You really should be telling us what happened to all the 13% derivations, IGR, budgets, NDDC and ministry of Niger delta affairs and also Alams, Ibori and the other leaders in that region looting every kobo in sight.

The has nothing to do with resources control, it's all about bad, crooked and corrupt leadership in that region.

Even with resources control, are the leaders in that region going to repent, stop looting and deliver on behalf of their own people and if they don't, is it not going to be bombing and blowing up oil installations all over again?

You know the problem so why keep pointing fingers elsewhere?

What's your business on how people choose to spend their own money. If they decide to use it for toilet paper, how the hell is it your business. What you self righteous people don't understand that we understand all these your tactics of telling us, what about the 13% this, NDDC that. it's the resource of the Niger Delta ad it's their prerogative to decide whether they want to squander it or not. it's not in your place to ask questions. The fact that you don't care about Kaduna doesn't mean well-meaning Nigerians shouldn't give a damn about their fellow countrymen or the fact that you have zero moral concern about the same people you pretend to care about doesn't mean other people shouldn't.

Your moral compass is very detrimental to the people of the delta.
