Vanguard gathered that the three people that survived the night fire include the eight-day old baby thrown off from the upstairs, the celebrant’s eldest son and one of her visiting sister who abandoned her own child and jumped the fire for safety.

The head of the family, Kabiru Baba in pains, told Vanguard that he lost his wife, four children and in-laws in the inferno, pointing out that the cause of the fire was still a ‘subject of mystery to him’.

Kabiru Baba stated that those that survived the inferno jumped the lengthy staircase to his waiting arm, stressing that her sister in-law that survived the inferno lost a kid to the fire.

“I had just finished pumping water into the main tank in the building and was settling down when suddenly a shout of fire outbreak rented the air. There was commotion and I saw every member of my family trying to escape but could not because the fire that started from the kitchen had sealed off the only exit,” Kabiru Baba narrated how his 12 relations perished.

May their souls rest in peace. May their deaths not be in vain and may it lead to the allotment of resources to develop effective fire brigade systems across the state.
