Constitution Of Nigeria Should Be Taught In Schools. by Josephjnr(m): 11:59am On Aug 23, 2017
In Nigeria today, most of us live our lives in total ignorance of what is required of us as a citizen of this country. Understanding the laws (as a whole) guiding your nation is paramount and determines how you relate to your fellow country men. A police man/soldier may beat up a civilian and collect money(bribe) from him/her because the real truth is,the policeman/soldier himself does not really understand the law. And the victim of this whole circumstance will suffer in pain because of lack of understanding of his rights in Nigeria constitution. Many painful things and mistakes happen in our Nation as a result of this ignirance such as: mob becoming judge, jury and executioner by killing crime suspects(who might be innocent) on the street, police detaining a suspect in a crime situation for days without any evidence or legal reason, paying money for free things etc. There is a common idea in Nigeria that policemen/soldiers are always careful when dealing with a legal person(qualified or student). The question is,what makes a legal person different from a businessman? The legal person have a complete knowledge of the law, knows his capabilities and limitations in the law and act within that frame. Many Nigeria today have no personal or specific lawyer who they can call when needs arise and end up making mistakes that will push them to the gallows. So in my opinion, teaching Nigerians critically the law (constitution) of the country in bits from primary level of education will go a great extent to help the citizens of Nigeria. Knowledge is power. God bless Nigeria(GBN).
