Prince Harry and his brother Prince William have told for the first time how they felt the moment their father Prince Charles broke the news about the death of their mother.

In an interview, both Princes also reveal how they reacted to being told that their mum Princess
Diana, the Princess of Wales, had died in a car accident in Paris.

Opening up about the seven days that followed after the accident, the princes give an account of how they had to hide their devastation in the midst of the out-pour of public grief.

In a BBC documentary, to be aired on Sunday, Prince William and Harry speak of their shock at the scale of public mourning.

They also give an account of having to walk behind their mother’s coffin at the burial, with William saying that all he wanted was to go into a room and cry.

Acknowledging thier father for his effort to comfort them in the days that followed after Diana’s death, Prince Harry says that one of the most difficult things to do is having to tell your kids that their other parent is no more.

Prince Harry said their father Prince Charles did his best at being there for them and making sure they were protected and taken care of, despite going through the same grief as well. He said for him, there was no immediate outpouring of grief because his immediate reaction was that of disbelief.

Prince William on his part said he was immediately disorientated, confused and dizzy. He added that he remembers just going completely numb, and just kept asking himself ‘why me?’

The documentary marks the 20th anniversary of the death of the Princess Diana and tells a behind-the-scenes story of the week prior to and after the burial. It shows some of the major personalities at the time including Tony Blair, the former prime minister, Diana’s family, senior royal aides.
