NASU Strike: Activities Grounded In UNILAG As Staff Are Chased Out by bouncenews2: 2:29pm On Sep 11, 2017
It is September 11 and members of the Non-Academic Staff of Universities (NASU) have been asked to sit at home in compliance to an industrial action.

They want to force the Federal Government, which appears to have a lot of strike issues to tackle, to meet their demands.

In the early hours of Monday, at the University of Lagos UNILAG), there was no sign of compliance, but the air of uncertainty leaves one with no doubt that things will change in no time.

At the institution, activities were already down, since the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) began its strike in August.

Bounce News correspondent, Israel Ojoko was at UNILAG reported that "except for lectures and other academic activities, it is business as usual in the University".

The school was supposed to commence examination last week, but ASUU strike has made that impossible.
In some departments visited, offices were open, with staff at work. They were not sure of the strike it appears.

But there was, however, an air of uncertainty within the university, as non-academic staff at work were on the lookout for possible picketing.

Bounce News was told that NASU executive members in the institution would storm the school any moment to chase workers who have turned up for duty out.

Minutes after that information was received, the executives came.

Every official in their offices were chased out and asked to go home until they hear that the strike has been called off.

Only security personnel will be allowed to work, but with a condition - they must not wear uniforms.

Hopes of students seen reading, in anticipation that ASUU strike will soon be called off seem to have suffered a setback, with the commencement of NASU strike.

ASUU had series of meetings with the Federal Government last week, with the last showing signs of hope the strike will end soon.

The government had assured the union it would begin to meet some of their demands and the representatives of the union had asked for time to discuss the terms with members of the body.
