Everything About The New Android 8.0 Oreo by directonpc(m): 9:16am On Sep 15, 2017
Roughly five months after Google introduced Android O to the world, it has finally revealed the final name of the operating system. The latest Android version has been named Oreo, just as rumored. Announcing thename, Google said, “The world’s favorite cookie is your new favorite Android release”. It should be noted that this is only the second time that Google has chosen the name of a popular snack. In 2013, Google had partnered with Nestle to co-brand Android 4.4 as KitKat.

Google has already uploaded Android 8.0 Oreo system image for the Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel C, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, and the Nexus Player. If you own any of these devices, you can flash the system image and start exploring all the new Android Oreo features right away. For everyone else, the wait is going to be a lot longer. Google has worked closely with a number of Android OEMs such as Essential, Huawei, HTC, Kyocera, Motorola, HMDGlobal, Samsung, Sharp and Sony to ensure that at least some of their devices can be updated to Android 8.0Oreo before the end of this year. Of course, some manufacturers are likelyto be quicker than others, so there is ahigh possibility of a few flagship Android smartphones receiving the Oreo update by early Q4.

Key Android Oreo Features

Android 8.0 Oreo is claimed to deliver a more powerful and easy Android experience than any previous version so far. Here are some of the most exciting new features that Oreo bringsto the table

Picture-in-picture

For a superior multitasking experience, Google has introduced a new Picture-in-picture mode that lets users shrink a video app while performing other tasks. This way you can keep viewing a video or see the other person on a video call without having to exit the app whenever you need to perform another task.

Notification Dots

With Android 8.0, Google has extended the reach of notifications with notification dots. Apps can now display notification badges on app icons to notify users about unread notifications. Users can then long press on an app icon to quickly glance at the notifications.

Auto-fill framework

While the feature isn’t available currently, Google will be rolling out Autofill fully over the next few weeks as part of an update to Google Play Services. Once updated, users won’t have to waste time filling out forms.

Project Treble

Google aims to make it faster, easier, and more economic for OEMs to update their devices to a newer version of Android with Project Treble. It separates the vendor implementation from the Android OS framework via a new vendor interface. This allows manufacturers to update their devices to newer Android versions without having to update a large portion of the Android code.

Improved Battery Life

As with almost every new version of Android, Google has made a few improvements to enhance battery life. New background limits on location and Wi-Fi scans as well as the way apps behave in the background help prevent unnecessary battery usage, boosting battery life by a small margin.

Higher Performance

Google has made several optimizations to minimize boot times as well as increase app loading performance. Once your device is updated to Android Oreo, you will notice that time taken to restart your device is almost cut in half.
