Almost all sodium compounds dissolve which reduces the ability to conduct electricity

NaCl, is a compound that consists of sodium ions and chloride ions connected by ionic bonds to form a 3D structure. Its composition is fixed.
Re: 100k For Lucky Student Nairalanders. by Jesuspikin8: 5:14pm On Sep 18, 2017
ModusOperandi:
Alloys are mixtures of metals, without ionic or covalent bondng. NaCl is a mixture of metal and gas (chlorine) and is regarded as a compound

*Compounds are formed by combining two more more elements that form a chemical bond between the elements in a ratio dependent on the atomic structure. Bonds are either covalaent or ionic, sodium chloride has an ionic bond, hence its a compound not an alloy
Thank you. I stand by my answer even if the judges reject it.

Which one is electricity?

Is that not a property?

I no fit shout

alloys are ordered within their lattices. nacl is not
NaCl is perfectly ordered.

VinceSpence:
Sodium chloride is not alloy cause is not a metal. An alloy is metal consisting of two elements of which one of the element is a metal.
correct

alloy is the combination of two or more metal to form a single metal for specific purpose
example stainless steel (combination of chromium and steel)
Bronze
etc
this specific purpose can be for hardening corrosion prevention etc.

from an engineering point of view

It cannot be referred to as an alloy because there is an ionic bonding between them.

First correct answer.

But there is more. I'd give room for one more, which can either be from you or anyone else. So you can have either all the money or half of it.

By this answer you are guaranteed half.

Re: 100k For Lucky Student Nairalanders. by Boldwinner(m): 5:16pm On Sep 18, 2017
I also think that sodium chloride is formed by the reaction of an acid and alkali. Hence bonding of sodium and chlorine ions. But in the case of alloys.. the constituent elements do not react. They are just combined or mixed under high temperature to form the desired alloy. not by chemical reaction.

Wrong. Matter of fact, NaCl only conduct in its molten form.
Re: 100k For Lucky Student Nairalanders. by INCREDIBLEGUY: 5:17pm On Sep 18, 2017
it can not be referred to sodium chloride because Sodium chloride, also known as salt or halite, is an ionic compound with the chemical formula NaCl, representing a 1:1 ratio of sodium and chloride ions why allow is a metal made by combining two or more metallic elements, especially to give greater strength or resistance to corrosion

I see. Waiting for the next right answer.
if the unlike atoms in a substance are attracted by strong electrical forces, the result is not an ordered solid solution with metallic properties but a true chemical compound. Therefore, salt like sodium chloride, NaCl is considered an ionic compound, and not an alloy of sodium.

alloys are ordered solid solutions. same cannot be said of nacl which is a true chemical compound

Sodium chloride is not an alloy because even though it is a mixture of two elements and though sodium in the compound is metallic it does not have metallic property. grin
