Global oil prices are low and will remain so even in the distant future. At the same time, countries are announcing plans to exit the use of fossil fuels via electrical cars and investments in green energy. Nigeria should be responding by developing a concrete plan to wean herself of dependency on oil by diversifying her economic base and revenue sources but these daft people are busy searching for more oil where it does not exist. What a pity to be born into a country of daftness where people don't think ahead. The commodity super-cycle is over, Mr. Buhari.

Hmm odd but what ever. Never heard anything about Sokoto basin til now. If they are getting oil I would assume Benue trough best spot first.

True the Benue trough has the largest proven deposits in the country but for some reason they just keep mute on it since 1975 when exploration activities there prove it

Let's start developing our electricity...I am a Nigerian that works with the world producer of electric cars, Tesla. This is the truth, the wold is doing away with fossil fuel by 10 years from now. China is building giga factories 4 times the size of Tesla's giga factory. Most European countries are doing same. Discovering oil in sokoto or any part of the world now is a waste. We should work on our electricity so that we can charge our cars by 10years from now. We are already using electric cars in America.

Maybe we'll drink the OIL,. Countries are setting dates to end the use of fossil fuels.... even Total is now investing heavily on renewable energy...

You are right. There is proven oil deposit in that area. Even, as Anambra election is approaching, what happens to the refinery Peter Obi built? He said it would be receiving crude oil from a well at Kogi.

The nnpc gmd is speaking this way because he knows he is speaking to people who don't know much about how these things work. Only the results of these prospecting will tell whether there is crude there or not. So hopes shouldn't be high for now. These kinds of integrated prospecting have been done in so many places, wasting the tax payers money without getting a positive result. I guess this is the diversification they campaigned about.

Countries are moving away from oil we are wasting the small money that we would have used to repair our bad roads looking for what does not exist.

The earlier we start moving away from oil in Nigeria the better for our future generations.

especially in this era of digital transformation and digital disruption mhen we are just backward as a people

Buhari is naturally useless. To think this is their version of economic diversification makes Nigeria a useless place to be

Why would NNPC waste scare resources on oil exploration. Private investors should be granted licenses to do this if it is a viable undertaking.

Why can't we have a future roadmap or plan in this country why are we saddled with visionless people at the helm of affairs. I read the story of Dubai written by one of thier leaders. From the day oil was discovered in UAE they started thinking of how to use the oil to develop an economy independent of oil. They focused on trade, tourism and human capacity development. When mediocres are at the helm of affairs this is the result. Which kain country and government be this

Re: NNPC Begins Oil Exploration In The Sokoto Basin by Nobody: 8:47am On Sep 21, 2017
Private investors should be allowed to carry out the seismic analysis & exploration. NNPC should not be using Nigerian money to do these again. During the military, Nigeria wasted a VERY HUGE amount of money to prospect for oil in the north until it was suspended. I know recent technological advancement in geo sciences & petroleum engineering has brought new techniques leading to new discoveries all over the world.

The analysis & exploration are not being done by government. Nigerian case is a northern agenda & factor. What stops NNPC from coming to South West Littoral States to carry out the same Seismic analysis & exploration right from the military era when huge amount of dollars have been spent prospecting for oil in the North, out of frustration, not minding the risk & with faith in God, an individual has to take the risk. Well, that is why Nigeria in future, will still face a lot of realities.
