Yampotatocarrot: No worries. Your perspective. Ultimately, I wear the shoes and I think I made the best decision in the circumstances. In any event; 1. I grew tremendously in the 2 years. Note that I said I gained 5 years worth experience in 2. That suggests growth and some effort at personal development. 2. It is too general a statement to say all businesses are for the endowment of their owners. If that were true, no multinational and multijurisdictional would exist today, as the driving philosophy behind these coorporations is more than self perpetuation or endowment. 3. There's a thin line between criticism and abuse. Even criticism must be constructive and one must learn to draw the line between a healthy dose which you need to grow and that which corrodes your confidence. You must know when to "chicken out", if you have to. 4. There are no perfect places. So I'm not under the illusion that my new law firm is heaven but, to me, it represents a push in the right direction. I hope with these few points of mine, I have been able to convince and not confuse you.... Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Cheers. 8 Likes |

tolusan: Loooooooooooooooooooooooooool.... U got me at the "I hope with these few points of mine".. Though I don't agree with your number 2.... Why start an organisation if not for personal enrichment, except it's an NGO |

tolusan: number 3 is so true. what people fail to realise is that there is a way you criticise someone to the point where that individual loses his self confidence. money isn't everything. imagine having to go to work and your mind isn't at rest because you don't have an idea what missile would be thrown your way. even when one does a good job, compliments would come in form of criticism. how then does one expect to give his/her all when the one given is not appreciated in first place. congratulations on the new job. wishing you greater heights. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Good day, I really want to share my experience but I like being private, so this a 'secret' account. Well, I started a new job few weeks ago. A mechanical Engineer by profession and been practicing since leaving school. This new job came at a time where I was contemplating what to do with my life but my Lord came through for me. I design Mechanical Building systems like the Plumbing, HVAC, Fire prevention and fighting amongst other related things. The role is interesting as no two buildings are the same and the taste, finance of the owners may vary greatly. Hence, the services Mr Dantata may want in his building is nothing compared to what Mr Danladi wants. I worked with a consulting firm before now and the environment was lovely, but the pay was almost non-existent. This new place gives me some perks but I have to be on site 90% of the time. Presently supervising an on-going project in Lagos, but I feel somewhat underachieved. Majorly, I would have to just implement the designs of another engineer and make minor corrections. I don't have the opportunity to contribute in the design process and that makes me feel like I am playing second fiddle. I'm trying to calm my nerves but I know I ain't cut out for something like this. Sighs Hopefully, I'll get over it or move on to something better suited for me. Davide470, its been a while. 4 Likes |

Aviator313: For what it's worth I think it is OK to execute other people's designs since you are new. Over time you will likely get to give little inputs here and there, and then you eventually lead your own designs. And then someone else will be executing your designs. I'm not an engineer but I guess that's the cycle. So, I think you are doing good. 2 Likes |

Dear All, I work for a Tier 1 bank in the southern part of Nigeria in the Corporate and Investment arm of the bank more specifically I manage Oil and Gas companies in the public sector space and/or JVs or SPVs with annual turnovers of over $500m. Summary of my role is to drive increment growth on the key names I manage, seek out new profitable relationships (calls), financial investment advisory, cross sell the bank’s liability and asset products, generate reports usings complex financial models, writing FAMs( financial analysis), resolve my customers short and long term challenges as they arise on my own or by liasing with the appropriate unit etc My week is usually like a rollercoaster, there are highs and lows it depends on my balance sheet and income earned which is a major influence on how meetings can go. For the most part I like what I do, it’s more sales related than actual investments option which i love more. Been here for a little over a year and I have gotten two offers from other banks here in Nigeria which makes me believe that negotiating from a position of Power (having a well paying job) is pertinent to landing a better paying job. #welcometomyOffice 11 Likes |

Thanks for this opportunity to read people's office daily life and be able to contribute. I concluded my youth service 2 years ago. I recently got a new job and this is my 3rd month on the job. The issue is that my job makes me lazy around for long hours doing practically nothing. I work with a ptsp company and my job requires me sitting around a merchants location for practically the whole day waiting for issues to come up with their transaction system so I can fix . I like the fact that I have a job, but I don't feel fulfilled about it because I don't get to learn anything new for the whole day. I have tried severally to learn something new on my own. But the drive always dies after sometime. Today has been same as everyday. I still haven't learn anything yet. Please advice. 1 Like |

#My_Office! Remember the freelancer that talked about one of his clients falling ill? Well, I was robbed last month and my laptop was stolen. Unfortunately, no money to purchase a new one yet so I'm kinda stuck. It's not all bad news here however. That particular client sent a mail about a week ago telling me that he had finally recovered. That was the best news I've heard since this month. God will help me. Amen!! 2 Likes |

Hello everyone, I was unfairly dismissed from work last month and my salary was withheld without any reasons stated. I have tried to contact the powers that be but have not gotten any response. Is there an organization that I can contact to look into my case? Also, are there lawyers on this thread that can advice me. Thank you all in advance for your contributions. PS. I didn't know where to post this, sorry for going off topic. |

Hello everyone, I work in Branch Operations in a DMB. I'm primarily at the customer service desk and basically my duty entails managing customers' enquiries, complaints and requests; cross-selling the Bank's products and services to customers; customer onboarding, etc. For the past two months, though, I've been on relief duty at the Funds Transfer department as a relief Funds Transfer Officer - the sojourn ends next week Monday and it's been an experience! On the Funds Transfer desk, my responsibilities include: transferring funds at customers' behest, reconciling the branch's internal accounts, raising Manager's Cheques upon customers' request, ATM administration, etc. This week, yesterday precisely, I had a verbal argument with a customer who always brings multiple instructions after close of business and always has his way because he knows people inside and he has come to normalise it (Today, the customer came early!). While I understand that the customer has urgent needs - and there are alternative ways to meet them BTW - I truly believe that it is unfair for staff in Branch Operations not to get to see the sun on weekdays, when we really should. Anyways, as they say, "it's the job ...." Welcome to my office! 6 Likes |
