Sad. Nigeria has been in this State for a looking time. People only truly notice 8t when it strikes home or closer to home. Nigerian doctors can't even perform ordinary CPR if Care is not taken.

Watch it, bro...many of us medical people....can do CPR.

Heck, we even have CME's that are all about CPR/BLS/ALS.....even up to some people offering certification !

The government is to blame for this for not providing enough beds and facilities in public hospitals, but how can they provide it when Nigerians pay abysmally low prices for public health services, untill the health sector is privatized and Nigerians or health insurance companies are made to pay the real cost of health services I don't see it getting better.

There is nothing wrong with the demand of N250k by the private hospital, they are businesses and have the right not to give services on credit

True our health institution are a mess, but we the people should look within ourselves. For a situation so critical that the private hospital had to charge so high, that means that the parents were trying to manage the condition at home. Most of our people self medicate and experiment with treatments until their conditions worsen beyond their control before rushing to hospitals. Even without the strike, are the hospitals well equipped to handle such severe cases?

If the health sector is privatized then a lot of poor Nigerians will not be able to access health care. If only our evil politicians can equip hospitals, provide better renumeration for the personnel and subsidize health care, there won't be any need for strikes and tragedies like this would have been averted.

@bolded comment refers

So unfortunate that you can make such statement because you are not the one in that situation presently, what stops the hospital from saving the child's life and later demand for the money ,it's people like you I detest ,if you are given a political position you will be worst than the ones we have now.
If really you have nothing pleasing to say you should have emphatize with the family as some sane human have done on this forum.

President went for treatment for ear infection abroad. If he had used hald the money he has spent on his foreign trips to settle striking health workers, would this have happened?

Yes, it would have happened.

Because the amount of money we need to spend on healthcare in this country is in the trillions of naira....not the millions Bubu spent on going to London to see the Queen.

For example, one hospital in the US has debts of $250million. Translate that to naira...88bn naira. (88 bn naira). Our health budget was N304bn for this year.

And we pay very low fees for services in this country...in the name of 'dividends of democracy'.

Add corruption to the mix...and you see why healthcare is starved of cash.

Sad as this may be for the parents, but ear infection can easily be treated with antibiotics and ear drops from home when detected on time.

Babies usually cry ceaselessly as just a touch to the ear will set her off especially when bathing.

Rip to the young girl.

I feel so sorry for this country and its failed health sector..
A Friend of mine recently went to a general hospital cos he had a throat infection and it was concluded that he needed surgery. He requested for the price and was ready to undergo the surgery as soon as possible, only to be told that the available period will be january 2019,I just weak when he told me this.

I Pray For A Better Nigeria.

Well

1.Did it once for one patient with pulmonary embolisim. Survived
2.Did it for another woman with eclampsia...survived.
3.Did it for a HIV patient stage 4...survived.(Died later..stage 4).

And the ones that died

1.One of them needed a heart transplant ....which his parents could not afford.
2.Another was a patient with multisystem organ failure.
3.A third was a kidney patient...whose kidney was on its last legs. Needed transplant.

Many more to count.

Look, we are symphatetic with the family.

But, that 250000 naira is needed to buy all sorts of stuff to make the op a success.

It is not like doctor will chop the money.

Nigerian health care does not have enough money. You cannot get N2million naira care with just N20000

1. Overseas....they pay heavily in taxes...sometimes up to 50% of salaries and wages...to get quality health care.

2.Also, they pay millions into private insurance schemes

3.Public health in overseas is far better than Nigeria. Also public hygiene is far better.

4.If you want the same in Nigeria...be prepared to pay heavy taxes at all levels. And we need our economy to be manufacturer based, not this oil that everybody is fighting over.

You make good points, but the problem is, corruption and evil politicians aside, we just don't have the money to provide all the nice and expensive facilities needed in a TERTIARY hospital.

Our health care budget is grossly inadequate...(and the stealing makes issues even worse).

If we want better...we have to pay for it. No buts.

Maybe if we did as Cuba does and spent more on PREVENTION....we might reduce our health costs.

Where do you work ? You sound like someone who loves his job. It will be good to note so that people who need good doctors can locate you cool. But only you and a very few others can't keep the ball rolling on a maximum level. We need more doctors to be proactive too. Send that link to other naija hospitals. They need it. Me I can perform CPR.

Oh no ...poor baby..... embarassed
Buhari went for ear infection treatment in London because he value his life..... .at the expense of Nigeria.. cos he did not trust our health service and the hospital in Aso rock.

When he came back.... he could not even build a low cost public funded hospital for the citizens to say thank you.....because he did not value their lives...

Why cant they just build just one top of the range ...outstanding hospital in Nigeria ... where people from abroad can also come to receive medical care....it is not as if Nigeria does not have the money .....but they are ready to spend billions on election.

they do that because they depend only on peoples taxes, but here in nigeria we made bastard money from oil oil from 1970 till today, most things here in nigeria is expected to be free, why do u think that there was free education back in the days of awolowo and nnamdi azikiwe?

are you a parent at all?what do you mean by no need for cries? A parent lost their baby because of the deficiency and failed system of the health sector,a very avoidable death only if our systems were working and you're saying she has gone to be with Jesus? undecided

Please stop calling the name of the Lord in vain or which parent wants to know the grave of their kids in their life time.show some empathy and respect please

Stop giving atheist justification to blaspheme.Jesus is not happy with the blood of an innocent baby because of the gross irresponsibility of our government

And you think the parents didnt try this before they took the baby to the hospital? Do you know how much damages have been done due to self-medication and quacks?

...quality education, security, health-care, job-creation should be the least any govt should guarantee...so much innefficiency to deal...restructure the country already let the basic issues be tackled at the local govt/ward level rather than far in abuja.
