The government is to blame for this for not providing enough beds and facilities in public hospitals, but how can they provide it when Nigerians pay abysmally low prices for public health services, untill the health sector is privatized and Nigerians or health insurance companies are made to pay the real cost of health services I don't see it getting better.

thats the problem, healthcare is expensive, we have to choose between having quality but expensive healthcare or poor and cheap healthcare.

How do you own a business that makes a profit of #1000 and pay yourself #700 then keep #300 for developing the business.

There is no where in the article to support your claim the parents administered antibiotics at home.

While the Government cannot escape its share of blame , I want to say that any child needing admission for ear infections is already in the advanced stage of the infection.

I say this for parents to take heed and learn. A reported case early enough would be a routine call to the clinic and ear drops and antibiotics administered from home. That isn't self-medication.

Funny...according to you an ear infection needing admission is already at "an advanced" stage...and you still dont think before it got to "an advanced" stage when the parents presented at the hospital they didnt try home remedy or something similar? How about if the child actually has more than just an ear infection they suspected in the first place?and you are advicing people to just take antibiotics and ear drops at home? It doesnt work like that all the time please, whoever is sick should see a medical doctor, life is too precious to gamble with and healthcare shouldnt be taken for granted.

Nope no one's supposed to render free services either, everyone goes into business for profit but, in some medical cases you could stabilize a bit to at least draw that patient back from death, then demand for your money before further treatment but most of these hospitals would not even respond at all to you. In the Op's story a bit of stabilizing would have helped that child first and probably encourage the parents to run around for funds.
