Heart disease is the leading cause of death in developed countries. This is increasingly becoming the case in developing countries like Nigeria where lifestyles have changed to become more western.

According to a recent study in a medical journal, you can reduce your chances of having heart disease or dying from heart disease if you do these six simple things.

1. Don’t smoke, or stop smoking




2. Keep your BMI within the recommended level

BMI – Body mass index looks at your height and weight to measure how much body fat you have. The recommended optimal BMI is 18.5 to 24.9,

3. Exercise, even just 2.5 hours a week


4. Eat a healthy diet



5. Avoid being sedentary – Watching television – for long periods



6. Avoid alcohol or drink in moderation
