If a whole Google can celebrate us by putting our flag on their landing home page, then why can't nairaland change their theme to something greenish for today. Over the years I've always watched you guys but you never celebrated this country here by doing that. Common lets celebrate our colour and flag too.

There is alot of apathy towards this day, looking back, we cant say we have come this far cos we actually have not even moved a step forward for more than half a century, but hey people, it's my birthday today, so I would rather y'all join me to celebrate this day on my behalf, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!

Happy Independence day Nigeria
Now it's time for celebration, Seriously! are we meant to celebrate? or have a rethink?, if at 57 a person still crawls, thinks like a 3 year old kid, I think it's nt time to celebrate but a time to wake up.Its never too late.
Are we Independent as a nation?
Let me give u a dictionary definition for the word 'independence', it means the state or quality of being independent, freedom from dependence;exemption from reliance on or control by others, direction of one's affairs without interference'.
Is the definition above applicable to Nigeria?
We still take advise from our colonial masters at 57!,we still depend on other countries for cars, phones, rice! even refined crude oil!! Haba!
We keep saying in those days, economy was good, groundnut pyramid bla bla bla. That is what I call(Long gist). Are we moving forward or backward? It is better if we had been stagnant cos we are moving backward and we feel we are moving,if we were stagnant maybe we would've known something was wrong.
Several years after our so called independence our highest court was still in London and for many years our leaders still received orders from the queen.
One of the worst days in the history of Nigeria was the discovery of crude oil on Sunday,January 15 1956. We shifted our focus to crude oil, we forgot agriculture, we forgot our source, we forgot the meaning of the green colour on the Nigerian flag.
In 1974 IMF(International Monetary Fund) borrowed money from Nigeria, now in 2017 we have borrowed money so much that the country had to leave about 90 international organisations
One of the worst decisions Nigerians made was when we voted in the presumed saviour who promised to fight corruption. But he has done nothing reasonable, almost every organisation as gone on strike, the country is now more divided than it as ever been.We stop importation without any innovation,is that wisdom?.Proverbs 29 vs 2 "When the righteous are in authority the people rejoice but when the wicked beareth rule the people mourn".Every country is corrupt, Infact the world is corrupt, the developed countries of the world, would you say they are void of corruption? We now live in the world where lies are preferred to the truth cos the truth is bitter and it is high time we realised that.
Our country is blessed with human and natural resources but our leaders are self centred and greedy. They make promises they know they can't keep and they keep playing us year in, year out.
But I would like to point out two main issues in Nigeria, religion and tribalism. Nigerians put religion on their heads and they act foolishly, they fight against each other because of a religion, your pastor or imam controls you so much that you no longer think straight. We have forgotten the meaning of the white colour on the Nigerian flag. The most painful thing is that,we put religion on our head and we still commit grievous sins, the level of hypocrisy in Nigeria is quite appalling.Proverbs 14 vs 34"Righteousness exalts a nation;but sin is a reproach to any people".Developed countries of the world don't put religion on their heads. The third world countries are the countries putting religion on their heads, go and find out.You fold your hands and say one day Nigeria will be great, excuse me, will God come down from heaven?Or do you think you'll wake up one morning and every thing would have changed. He is going to use people,it could be you or I.
We travel overseas we suffer racism, xenophobia we come back home to suffer racism, nepotism. Haaa!.What makes you think your tribe is better? Only love can keep us, we've forgotten our motto"unity and faith, peace and progress".We've got a lot to do as a country.
We need to stop depending on government, few weeks ago I was discussing with a friend and he said"if I have an opportunity to leave Nigeria,i will leave and never come back, what has the country given you?". Then I realised something, we need to give to the country without expecting something in return,America wasn't built in a day, the government didn't build America, America was built by men with like minds and men who had the passion for their country.
I write this because I know, millions of naira will be wasted in Aso rock again this year for the so called celebration.I know Nigerians can rise up and do the needed.
#From a patriotic Nigerian
#Happy 57th Independence day
#God bless Nigeria
