There was never a period in Nigeria where simply being an ACA or ASUO 35 years earlier in training automatically elavates an officer to become chief of Army staff.

The military may claim they are not involved in politics but na big fat lie, military appointments in Nigerian are based on government and internal military politics.

No one will appoint an ACA who could not pass Junior/Senior Staff college or NIPPS or other courses or is heavily corrupted or not friendly to the regime!

No one will appoint an ACA to be chief of Army staff if the other service chiefs are from same ethnic group or religion.

In the days of hausa/fulani hegemony under Shagari or iBB or Buhari, will not appoint some Southern Nigerian ACA to a strategic post like COAS just for the sake of being an ACA.

I know some ACAs who never got to even generals let alone COAS.
