You as a believer consciously and purposefully come to the presence of God through prayer,as such some form of reverence is expected. This has nothing to do with one being too religious or pious. Look at it this way,just as you wouldn't deliberately welcome an important guest to your house in an 'unworthy manner' so should it be with God.
