nonoski:wrong uniport engineers are awarded with B.EnGr(bachelor of engineering) while ust been a science & technology university. awards B.Tech(bachelor of technology ), B.sc means Bachelor of sceince and any university offering science courses gives that....as for the advantages in civil service an engineer will earn more than someone who studied a 4yr science course i believe. |

Actually there's a dichotomy. If you are working with a parastatal like nabteb( national business and technical examinations board), 1.you will be considered more for scholarship programs, and 2.you are most likely to be appointed REGISTRAR, if an in house selection is done to fill the spot and you are close to that level. |

seunny4lif:You're getting it wrong. As far as you studied engineering, Be it a conventional university or university of technology, What you get is B. Eng. But B tech is for those that studied other courses aside engineering in a university of technology. Same applies to normal universities too. BSc if you studied other courses aside engineering. I stand to be corrected though. 1 Like |

B. Tech, B. Agric, LL. B, B. Eng are degrees awarded after 5 years of study. thus the entry point for people who have this category of degrees is level 9 in civil service while those with B. Sc, B.A etc enter civil service on level 8. All animals are equal but some are actually more equal than others. however out of ignorance, some states civil service are unable to draw a distinction between the 2 categories and assume that any degree with B is bachelors degree and same...but no, they aren't same. while some states civil service commission only accord level 9 entry to lawyers and engineers...they overlook agric specialists and technologists. the proper thing should be that those who spent 5 yrs be admitted on level 9. 4 Likes |

In civil service, there's no discrepancy between Btech and B.Sc as both of them are employed at grade level 8. Btech are usually field or technically skilled workers while B.Sc are usually administrators |

Rexsul: There is a slight difference in entry step level in some agencies especially in one related to core Science and Engineering... While a B.Sc holder let's say is given CONRIASS 7 step 2, B.Tech holder will be given 7 step 3, their argument is based on the fact that B.Tech spends 5years in University while B.Sc only spends 4 years and that's why B.Tech are a step higher than B.Sc. This might not be so in all parastatal, but I have seen it in some Agencies.... |
Re: What Are The Advantages Of B.tech Over B.sc In Civil Service? by Emtol01: 8:13am On Oct 25, 2017 |
Rexsul:The two (B.tech & B. Sc) are same in level but B. Tech is two steps ahead of B.Sc. e.g-B.Sc level 8, the other will be B.tech level 8 step 2. Or B.Sc level 8 step 1, the other will be B. tech level 8 step 3. This is so because technological schools students spends minimum of 5 years for their programs while conventional schools students spends minimum of 4 years for their programs. 2 Likes |

Hello OP, I ll answer your question based on engineering, and I hope it helps. There is a difference between B.Tech,B.sc,and BEng. The similarities is that they are all science/Engineering related degrees. The difference is based on their training. Someone with a Bsc in Engineering is known as an Engineering Scientist whose job is mainly to look at the scientific composition of devices used in any engineering project. These guys ll tell you that that the radiation from the phone or mast has little effect on human or what and what are put together to form a diode, resistors, transistor etc. Someone with a B.Tech/BEng.Tech is known as an Engineering Technologist(kindly know that HND holders fall in this category). Their job is mainly application. They get the design and apply all necessary component to build the device. These guys are highly technically inclined as they can trouble shoot any fault within a shot time frame. Someone with a BEng is an Engineer and their job is to design. All they do is look at a problem come out with the design and then passed it to the tech guys (B.Tech) who ll carry out the job using components that have already bean tested by the scientist (Bsc). This is based on the Seydny accord. Plz pardon any error as I'm on transit 2 Likes |

You should say BTECH and BENG are for Engineering courses why BSC is for science and social science courses, it depends on your course, roles and performance in federal civil service. People are not talking about performance again but only about certificate without anything to defend the ownership of the certificate. |

University graduate of engineering are awarded B. Engineering not Bsc engineering. So for B. Engineering and B tech, there are same bt Bsc is different in the sense only 4 years is spent on the course of training. |
Re: What Are The Advantages Of B.tech Over B.sc In Civil Service? by ShySteady(m): 10:04am On Oct 25, 2017 |
As practised in the Public Civil Service in Nigeria based on the Scheme of Civil Service, a graduate with the Bachelor's Degree is usually appointed to GL08 except for some courses like Law whose entry point was adjusted a few years ago to GL09. The steps on entry is usually 02 and rises with time except one is promoted to a higher Grade Level. But a graduate with B.Eng and B.Tech will be better appreciated in terms of emoluments if they work with Ministry of Technology and their likes. Just like a graduate with B.Ed will be more appreciated in the Ministry of Education, etc. |

Depending on the school you go to. If you go to university of technology = B.tech but if you go to university that is not university of technology = bsc. That's the difference. |

What a dumb question. This is why we have problems in our country. What advantage are you looking for. Is civil service a particular discipline specialist? More so, B.Tech, B.Ed, BSc, as long as it is bachelors are all on same level. Na wa o. |
Re: What Are The Advantages Of B.tech Over B.sc In Civil Service? by 1121: 11:05am On Oct 25, 2017 |
B.tech is awarded by school of technology like FUTA, lautech etc to graduate of any course (be it eng or sc) and is usually of 5yrs duration. Bsc is usually of 4yrs duration and it applies to science based discipline in university that is not of technology(UI, ABU etc). Such schools award B.eng to engineering graduates and it takes 5yrs to study eng. B tech and B eng graduates start lecturing Job with ass lecturer position whereas Bsc grad start with GA. It follows suits in other fed parastata 1 Like |
