Indian men have been filmed volunteering to be trampled by cows

- It's an ancient ritual believed to bring good luck

- The ritual marks Ekadashi, which is held after the Diwali festival

Groups of men in India have been filmed volunteering to be trampled by cows in a ritual believed to bring good luck. Bizarre video footage shows the men lying on the ground as several cows are shepherded to run over them. The ancient tradition is known as Ekadashi and is held soon after the annual Hindu Diwali festival.

Thousands of people travel to Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh every year to mark the century-old ritual. As can be expected, many are injured in the ritual. However, they believe that the process of healing brings them luck.

The villagers decorate the cows with brightly colored flowers, balloons and even henna.

The villagers therefore consider being trampled a form of sacrifice.
