The dateline should be extended for them to kill more. Iffa hear kpim

6 months isnt enough time? They were killing before law passed so what's the point. They need to adapt or leave. They'll just move down south or west anyway.

Anyway the people of Benue should be vigilant and remember the teachings of Sun Tzu

When you are strong act as if you are weak.

This apparent weakness should not lull them to sleep

Ranches will be good for them, it will be a coordinated business not to wander from Jerusalem to Jericho in search of whom to kill.

Hope this law would be implemented to the maximum. Let Benue become a model state to other states.

In as much as banning nomadic farming is right security wise, I see great challenges for the herdsmen ahead.

Grasses don't grow all year round especially in the north. Their cows will have nothing to feed on.

Let them buy grass down south or find alternate feeds for the cows. This will create another economy. It's a win win situation.

He is indirectly telling them that... if they tried to buy land, the officials would find a way to frustrate their efforts... what the governor did is a form of diplomacy.

FarahAideed:
The Benue govt is making a mistake by telling them to buy land in Benue state , the best thing to do is to tell them to go iut completely and go find land somwhere else

Grass does not grow all year round in Europe/ In fact it snows and freezes over in many places which means they also have to invest in shelters
They still have cows it is called planning.
Grass can be dried and fed to cows all year round.
With irrigation grass can grow all year round. Grass is not the only thing cows can eat
They can be fed corn ,soya and other grains.
They can be fed dried cassava or cassava peelings. Which have to be paid for just like chicken farmers pay for food
The era of free grass is disappearing

Nice suggestions
Dried grass are not good enough. Some cows reject it.
Irrigation is the right thing to do, that's where the government should step in cause most herders can't afford it.
Grains and other things suggested are to expensive to be fed to cows.

Nice one, Bro

You are ignorant and you don't know that you don't know.

It is not a suggestion but a tested practice centuries old. It is called hay and with the right variety of grass cows do not reject it. Why not do some research instead of talking ignorantly

The primary objective of the cattle farmer is to achieve weight gain. This costs money if you want to do it quickly i.e maize and soya. Grass is just too slow though it has its use. The top cattle producing countries do not rely on just grass

I find it amusing when people ignorantly sit in front of their little computers and type NONSENSE.

67% of world maize production is fed to animals
over 80% of soya is fed to animal

What we need to do is to improve our productivity of these crops per hectare.
We average 2 ton per hectare compared to 8 in the US

Ask any chicken or fish farmer . They have been paying for corn and soya for ever. Good Morning to cattle farmers/ There are more productive varieties of maize different from what we grow in Nigeria.

In Europe cattle farmers either grow maize or buy it . It is that simple

Why are they grumbling now? You sat on your hands doing nothing for 6 months. You guys just want things handed to you instead investing your own money in starting a ranch. You guys better adapt because ranches will displace herding.
And they don't even pay tax at all to the host state and LG

The elite amongst them should go and study how its done in tropical south america. There are other nearby african examples in eastern and southern africa too.

The problem is the refusal of those who are enlightened amongst the fulanis, to help lead them out of their nomadic ways.

Herdsmen are often not cattle owners they are workers like labourers on a cassava farm in Delta or Ebonyi.Maybe even better off. Many are militant
What is to pity
