Draught is a game of 2 players using 2 colors of 20 round pieces(seeds) each on a board marked in black, white and red squares. They may be moved diagonally only, one square at a time. A seed may not move to a square occupied by the opponent, but may jump over the opponent's seed to the vacant square immediately beyond the opponent's piece, The leaped-over piece is "taken" and removed from the board. If an opponent's piece is in front of the new position, with an empty space beyond, the second piece may also be taken. When a piece on either side has progressed to the last row on the opposite side, it is crowned—that is, made a king. A second checker is placed on the first to indicate that it has been crowned. Like other pieces, kings can move only diagonally, one square at a time, except when jumping opponent's checkers; however, kings may move either backward or forward. This additional power gives a great advantage to the player who has the most kings. The object of the game is to clear the board of the opponent's checkers or to block the opponent's checkers so that they cannot be moved. If a player cannot move, that player loses the game.
Koroduma is a location in Karu Local Govt. Area of Nassarawa State very close to the FCT (Abuja) and its players decided to organized a local league for itself similar to Football League where individuals will come together to play each other round to accumulate points so as to have a champion from that location for a whole year and to rank each players base on the category they belong to either as Champions League, Premiership or Championship. The 1st edition took place last year with the final table shown below and hence, we decided to put something similar but more improved League where participant will register, take part in the competition and new Champion emerge in the coming weeks and finally rounded-up with presentation of gifts and an end of year party.
Nairaland as a reliable platform shall be use to update lovers of Draught both within and outside our members on the day to day activities of the league with local pictures of the competitors from our venues and table standing. To all Nairalanders, please we need your encouragement, advice are welcome through comments.
