Aside the fact that you said he professed love to you while your dating with him lasted, I don't see what else he did wrong to you - by the way, the statements; "I'm in love with you" and "I love you" shouldn't be mistaken for one another. For one, real love/love based on good attributes takes time to manifest. His stated shortcomings notwithstanding, credit to him for opening up to you - irrespective of how long it took him to do so - and for not meting out opportunism against you.

Meanwhile, disregard those telling you here or elsewhere that you made a mistake in expressing your feelings to him, because you did no evil. Only small-minded people pretend.
