"Security agencies suffer from underfunding, as well as misuse and misapplication of financial resources, without accountability for diversion or illicit award of contracts.25 Many security operatives resort to self-help. By admission of the police service commission head, nearly a third of the 330,000 police are employed by senior politicians and businessmen as private escorts." "On 2 December 2013 around 200 insurgents dressed in military uniform and armed with rocket launchers, explosives and assault rifles infiltrated Maiduguri and conducted coordinated attacks on the air force base and a military barracks. Most of the buildings were reportedly destroyed, as well as five aircraft" "Since 2009 the sect has grown from being a localised problem to a national and regional threat. “It has opportunistically tapped into Islamic revivalism globally, and, while it has local roots and origins, it is part of a broader, global ideological current”.121 In some cases, this includes ties to organisations outside Africa" "Senior security officials are first to admit, however, that their agencies are illprepared for today’s challenges, especially terrorism. Factors blamed include under- funding, lack of training and equipment, poor intelligence, corruption, complicity, inter-agency rivalries189 and lack of effective political leadership." "The police force is ill-equipped to address the Boko Haram threat and enjoys little public confidence.191 It has been grossly underfunded – less than 5 per cent of the budget – since military rule ended in 1999 and needs reform. The 2012 budget allocatted 1.6 million naira ($10,000) per soldier but only 870,000 naira ($5,400) per police officer. At current levels, police colleges “can only turn out demoralised, frustrated and dehumanised policemen”. Many residents accused police of selling informants’ identities to Boko Haram." "operations in Maiduguri have been supported by civilian vigilantes, youths from city neighbourhoods who initially organised themselves into groups to patrol streets in search of Boko Haram. They stormed homes of known, and suspected, members, hacking them to death or manhandling and then handing them over to the military." |

Henry120: don't mind the fool. he goes through the web searching for Nigeria with an eye patch so he only sees what he wants to see. that's why I don't bother with him anymore. boko haram can never make such mistake of holding territory. the army is only delaying going back there because the village is boko haram infested so going back will only expose those men to more deadlier ambushes. Boko Haram insurgents flee Damboa Members of the civilian JTF in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital have arrested 5 members of the Boko Haram insurgents who came into Damboa to board vehicle at the Kano motor park (Tashan Kano). DailyPost gathered that the suspects were fleeing to Lagos, following stories that the military was ready to reclaim Damboa town. A member of the JTF, Ahamadu Mamman told DailyPost that, some of the members of the Boko Haram sect who were fleeing Damboa town were being arrested by their members at motor parks within Maiduguri. “We arrested 5 yesterday at Tashan Kano. I think 4 were killed and one of them who is alive is giving the soldiers information. We have stationed our boys at Tashan Journey and all the local spots where vehicles pick passengers, even along the roads and we have been succeeding,” Mamman said. According to him, since the Boko Haram attacked Damboa and displace the people, it is obvious that war is imminent and some of them who don’t want to be caught up are seriously leaving the area. dailypost.ng/2014/07/24/boko-haram-flees-damboa-head-lagos/ 1 Like |

agaugust: Johannesburg can never have a building so backward like that in the city centre. The whole area around that building look so rural. If you want any place to compare with in terms of infrastructure rather go for Egypt. SA has a huge infrastructure which compares to that of Europe. In fact, the is no difference between SA and Europe if we were to single out our townships. Even many of our townships are far developed than many cities in Nigeria. This is even known by your president who happens to know SA. |
