Boko Haram Loses 59 in Clash with Military

Boko Haram insurgents

Michael Olugbode

In an attempt to expand their caliphate to cover another major Borno town, Bama, the outlawed Boko Haram sect met their Waterloo as 59 members of the terrorist sect were said to have been felled in an exchange of firepower with the Nigerian Army on Monday.

The terrorist group  attacked Bama, one of the largest town in the troubled state with a population of over 500,000 and a distance of 78 kilometres away from Maiduguri on Monday morning but suffered heavy casualty from the Nigerian Army in a crossfire.

According to a security source which preferred anonymity, 59 of about 200  insurgents who  invaded the town were killed.

He said over 30 insurgents were also  injured with various bullet wounds as the majority of the terrorists were compelled to retreat  through the bush.
Details to follow

Busted for what? for posting a similar AGL design that you don't know exists?

The Ammo Box for the Nigerian Cobra AGL is clearly seen as much bigger than the old German AGL. This world is full of too many types of hard to identify/name infantry weapons flooding the market.

There are many Nigerian army equipment we see but we don't know the exact name because the army never published it, we see MGLs in use that we don't know the name or origin, try name the MGL below with a source...
.
That looks some Polish MGL forgot the name.

Nope I have already shown rooivalk is superior

It is more maneuverable, has a bigger operational footprint, flys higher and climbs faster

It carrys more ordinance

It carrys better ordinance

It has a better offensive avionics suite

It has a better defensive avionics suite

It has better navigational equipment

And let's not even talk about the better battlefield characteristics of the rooivalk
And more importantly is its availability and ease on logistics.

It was very easy to say that S.A.A.F was wasting ammo and bragging about dropping bombs on dummy targets during exercises. I bet Augbu and his friends are swallowing their own words, because now you see the importance of pilots taking part in extensive exercises and getting comfortable with using their weapons. FighterPilot: PEOPLE THERE IS A HELL GOING ON IN NIGERIA. THEIR MILITARY IS FRAGMENTED INTO PIECES. ONE THING COMES ON MY MIND THAT NIGERIA COULD POSSIBLY HAVE LOST LARGE NUMBER OF THEIR SPECIAL FORCES WHO WERE NOT EVEN WELL EXPERIENCED IN COMBAT.

NIGERIA HAS ALSO LARGE NUMBER OF UNEXPERIENCED COMBAT PILOTS WHO NEED TO BE TRAINED EXTENSIVELY.

THE EXERCISES THAT WE ARE ALWAYS DOING IN LOHATLHA BATTLE SCHOOL THAT @AGAUGUST IS ALWAYS CHANTING THAT WE ARE ALWAYS SHOOTING AT AN OPEN FIELD IS VERY HELPFUL, ESPECIALLY TO THE AIRFORCE. IT HELPS THE PILOTS TO PRACTISE THEIR SKILLS WELL AND TO KNOW WHERE THEY SHOULD ALWAYS BE IN RELATION TO THE FRIENDLY FORCES ON THE GROUND.

NOW, SOME STUPIDD NIGERIAN PILOTS OUT OF FEAR OF BEING HIT BY ANTI- AIR SHELLS, HAVE MISTAKENLY BLEW OUT THEIR OWN BASE AND KILLED FRIENDLY FORCES IN MULTIPLE OCCASSIONS.

IT IS UNFORTUNATE NIGERIA DOES NOT HAVE THE SAME FACILITY AS THAT OF SA. BEAR WIT ME, IT WOULDN'T HELP EVEN IF NAF CAN ACQUIRE 100 4TH GENERATION FIGHTERS NOW. THE QUESTION WILL BE WHO IS GOING TO FLY THOSE MACHINES? IT TAKES OVER 3YEARS TO LEARN HOW TO FLY THE NEW GENERATION FIGHTERS AND EVEN AFTER THAT YOU WILL REMAIN UNQUALIFIED TO BE DEPLOYED TO WAR ZONE.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT A FIGHTER PILOT SHOULD LEARN HOW TO MANEUVER AND TAKE COUNTER MEASURES, BUT THAT TAKES TIME AND COULD ONLY BE LEARNED WHEN A PILOT IS FULLY QUALIFIED TO CAN JUST FLY A FIGHTER. MORE OR LESS IT WOULD TAKE THEM 7-8 YEARS ON AGGREGATE TO ACHIEVE ALL THAT.

PEOPLE AGAIN NOWADAYS IT IS NOT EASY TO ACQUIRE MERCENARY PILOTS LIKE IT WAS IN THE PAST. WELL, AFTER ALL LET ME JUST TAKE A TACTICAL MANEUVER.

I do not dispute the number of enemy casualties but, why didn't your commander share the number of his own casualties *What is he hiding*, and that article doesn't say whether Bama is still under N.A control or not, and why doesn't it mention details about the second attack?

What pride, I ask?

__

Letter from Africa: Nigeria's Boko Haram wounds army's pride

In our series of letters from African journalists, Mannir Dan Ali considers Nigeria's inability to prevent the Boko Haram militant group from gaining ground in the north-east.

Just when you imagine that it cannot get worse for the Nigerian military and its pride as a fighting force, it takes a further dive.

With the abduction of the more than 200 teenage schoolgirls from Chibok in north-eastern Nigeria well past the three-month mark and no news yet about their rescue, the number of towns and villages being taken over by the Boko Haram insurgents is steadily growing.

It seems military commanders have believed their own propaganda, ignoring the true state of affairs in the troubled region.

For nearly a year - coinciding with the state of emergency in the north-east - there have been constant reports quoting foot soldiers saying they lack the equipment to match the firepower of the insurgents.

Recently some soldiers claimed that sending them to engage the insurgents without adequate weapons was like sending them to die.

Last month saw the unprecedented spectacle of soldiers' wives protesting at the barracks in Maiduguri against the deployment of their husbands to the battle front on the grounds that they were not properly equipped.

Before that the senior general in charge of the same barracks barely escaped with his life when angry junior soldiers turned their guns on him after they heard about a bloody ambush in which a number of their colleagues lost their lives.
Courts-martial

He escaped unharmed - after being whisked away by his security aides - and was discreetly replaced shortly afterwards.

This was quickly followed by reports of mutinous conduct by some soldiers who refused an order to be posted to engage with the Boko Haram militants.

At all times the Nigerian military authorities issue standard denials and in the case of the refusal to carry out orders attributed it to "mischief-makers working for terrorists".

On the wives' protest, Nigeria's army chief Lt-Gen Kenneth Minimah warned: "Any repeat of such acts, I will tell soldiers to use koboko [whip] on the wives and bundle them out of the barracks."

Most of military's hardware dates back to purchases made under the civilian government overthrown in 1983 - the last non-military administration until multi-party democracy returned in 1999.

The rot is blamed largely on corruption - and some say the inadequacy is also a legacy of long years of neglect by military regimes, coupled with politicians who argued a strong army was a challenge to democracy.

All this has allowed Boko Haram to seize the initiative, taking over and holding towns and villages and hoisting their flags in places such as Gwoza.

This has emboldened the group's leader to declare a caliphate in the areas it controls.

The Nigerian defence headquarters dismiss this as empty rhetoric - they say the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state is still intact.

But many Nigerians remain wary of such reassurances and are apprehensive about what the militants may do next.

Bama Death Toll Rises to 130, 35 Insurgents Arrested

02 Sep 2014

By Michael Olugbode

The Borno youth vigilantes popularly known as civilian JTF Tuesday dispelled the rumor that the Boko Haram insurgents have taken over the control of Bama town.

They said instead it was the group that suffered a massive casualty in the attack, losing 130 persons with 35 others arrested and in custody.

At a press briefing in Maiduguri, spokesman of the JTF who is also the legal, Barrister Jibrin Gunda, said: “we categorically refute the statement credited to Senator Ahmed Zanna, the senator representing Borno central on BBC Hausa service that the Boko Haram have capture Bama.

“News has filtered most especially on foreign media to which we want to clearly state that our security personnel are doing their best and yesterday our gallant soldiers successfully repelled the insurgents who attacked Bama and Bama as a town in Borno State has never been overrun or overtaken by the insurgents even for a minute, even as of now our soldiers are in full control of the town”.

Continue supporting terrorists. You would soon be invited to join Boko-haram, since this is what you desperately want.
