Is that what you were taught in school...... To answer a question with a question?

What use is a 4 GEN Jet is there are no pilots to fly them?

Isn't that quite literally 0 GEN?

But we do have pilots to operate them - at least 9 of them.

Why does NAF operate ZERO 4th Gen platforms?

People in glass houses...

we only have ~9 because 4 have retired.

9 + 4 = 13 (plus 2 at weapons development = 15)

This means that you have been wrong, for years. What boggels my mind is that you didnt listen to us

Actually 9 Gripen Pilots, not Gripen jets.

None of the pilots are combat qualified.

In actual reality, you have 0 GEN fighter jets.

-- superior firepower? Says whom?

-- no it was not

-- Yes, in terms of MRLS it is small

-- Mission was not to stop Seleka. All objectives met - Bangui was a sucess.

These are the facts
NO here are the facts!!

-- your countryman @fighterpilot said the hornet is used for delivering heavy firepower in the frontline... so you mean he's lying? no problem

-- yes superior firepower, what did the rebels possess? AKs and RPG, 23mms light arms.

First batch of gripens were received in 2010 and the last ones in 2012. SANDF has over nine gripen pilots. Hawks and gripens are used as same training platforms.

Cameroon has just disgraced themselves and caused a million more problems by allowing 300 US troops into their land to "fight Boko Haram", Cameroon is a disgrace to Africa. I thought it was bad enough being a french colony in 2015 and now they are doing this.

They are doing it in the interest of protecting lives other than waiting for too long like how Nigeria did. Lives of citizens comes first.

All those propaganda liars did not do any military reconnaissance and intelligence gatherings in Bangui, that's why they manufacture figures from 2,000 to even more ridiculous 7,000 Seleka.

French army intelligence report from inside Bangui said between 1,000 to 1,500 Seleka rebels.

They are doing it because they want to destroy West Africa and now Cameroon has let them in they are soon going to turn Cameroon into Syria mk2. This is going to cause big problems.

Seleka was on full strength when they swept the CAR government on a coup. Seleka is an alliance of rebels totalling over 6000 and SA alone took on over 3000 of them when the CAR government troops and peacekeepers force disappeared into thin air. Truly, Djotodia would have never risked to take over Bangui by force with only 1000 militants to face possibly gunship that was patrolling the area, French troops, SANDF troops and CAR government troops.

By using the word recconaissance you have already compromised your argument because there is only one division in the armed forces trained to carry out recce duties and that's special forces.

You just proved how useless South African military academy is ! You have BSc Military science from a useless country like South Africa.

Reconaissance is done by an entire army using various regiments like regular infantry, armour, and regular recce regiments.

Show me a source that defines reconnaissance as an operation performed only by special forces.

You mean an army armoured corps brigade in a tank battle will not do reconnaissance?

Army mechanized regular infantry IFVs like BTR-4, Patria, Bradley, BMP-3, etc all have reconnaisance versions, so are those IFV for special forces ?

Scorpion tank is a recconnaisance tank belonging to armoured regiments. Do special forces use tanks for reconnaissance?

the financially strapped SA Air Force (SAAF) is further extending its foreign training commitments with Russia being the latest addition.
A report has it that about 10 pilots from 2 Squadron at AFB Makhado have been selected for further training in Russia. This is a direct outflow of a co-operation agreement signed between the defence ministers of the two countries, Afrikaans weekly Rapport said.

Four pilots are already undergoing training in Cuba and according to SA National Defence Force Chief General Solly Shoke, agreements have also been entered into with the United States and the United Kingdom on various aspects of military training.

At the same time the paper reports the SAAF has experienced more resignations from the ranks of its jet pilots.

Four of only the handful of jet fighter pilots in the SAAF have resigned leaving the force with three times as many Gripens as qualified pilots for them,” the paper said.

26 ÷ 3 = 9

Making matters worse is that two test pilots based at AFB Overberg, home of the Test Flight and Development Centre (TFDC), have not had their contracts renewed.

Against this background it is not surprising the original number of 18 pilots supposed to go to Russia was cut. Another reason for sending fewer jet pilots is cost. South Africa had to pay for travel and living expenses while Russia is carrying the cost of training.

The majority of those going to Russia are qualified pilots but are short of flying hours to build their experience base. The lack of flying hours, also a result of a tight budget, has contributed in no small measure to this.

Pilots at AFB Makhado told the paper their colleagues who resigned had done so because they couldn’t fly. They have apparently joined airlines or companies operating in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and China.

It appears the group bound for Russia are not going to have an easy time of it. A SAAF officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the Russians had made it clear no time would be wasted on pilots who cannot fly properly.

The word reconnaissance has now become so much of a fancy word to be misused by many militaries across the world. Reconnaissance as we come to know it is not the task that is performed by ordinary military forces other than those who have vigorously trained to do it. It is no wonder that you understand that word on the spectrum of civilian milieu because you are a civilian and hardly know anything military. You read about military and whatever you have written ever since the beginning of this forum was largely based on your theory. I have never head you writing anything out of experience.

Reconnaissance and surveillance is a specialised task which happens at the front lines. Special forces carry out such duties. Like it or not.
