SANDF MISSILE RAPTOR.......WHICH AFRICAN COUNTRY HAS INVENTED ITS OWN MISSILE

Description:
Kentron has been involved in the development of guided weapons and missiles since the 1970s. The Raptor glide bomb was the first of these to go into service, with the H1 effectively being a technology testbed.
It was used operationally in the final phase of South African involvement in Angola. Company officials are coy, but reports say the Raptor was used to successfully interdict the lone bridge crossing the Cuito Cuanavale River near the town with the same name. It has not been confirmed that this weapon was previously called H-2.

The Raptor is a modular system consisting of the glide bomb, the communications pod, pylons and control equipment. The bomb can glide to targets at ranges in excess of 60 kilometres, but can be controlled at ranges of up to 250km, when the communications pod is fitted to a second aircraft. The weapon was integrated on the Buccaneer and the Mirage F1AZ, in which pilot used a small joystick control to steer the H2 to its target.

In later versions, navigation can be autonomous, by waypoint or by using GPS-assisted inertial navigation. The weapon is usually fitted with a passive TV seeker. It can be upgraded to include an imaging infra red or radar seeker. The weapon is accurate to within 3m CEP. In SAAF service it is either fitted with a fragmentation or penetration warhead.

The weapon was first used operationaly against the bridge at Cuito Canavale during Operations Modular/Hooper. Buccaneer 414 dropped the first H2 "Smart"-Bomb to be used operationally by the SAAF during an attack on the Cuito bridge in Southern Angola on 12 December 1987. Unfortunately the H2 failed to destroy its target but a second attack on 3 January 1988 proved more successful.

At approximately 05h45Z on 3 January 1988, a formation of Buccaneers departed from Air Force Base Grootfontein armed with the glide ‘smart-bomb' commonly referred to as "H-2 and HANTO", the first attempt of the day to destroy the Cuito Cuanavale Bridge was aborted.
The second attempt saw the aircraft take-off at 09h40Z and the FAPA (Angolan Air Force) launched a flight of MiG-23's to intercept (the intercept aircraft never reached the Buccaneer formation ) and Buccaneer successfully launched ‘H2' and destroyed the Bridge at 10h31Z.
24 Squadron operated two Impala Mk Is as weapons systems trainers for the system used by the Buccaneers. The two Impalas had modified rear cockpits, with the joystick remove. The aircraft carried electronics pods, one each side, on the hard points.

PROUDLY SOUTH AFRICAN

South Africa guided weapons company Kentron has unveiled its 300km (180mi) range Torgos cruise missile for the first time at Dubai 2000.

The new missile is a development of the existing family of precision guided weapons from Kentron, a division of the Denel Group.

"Torgos has been designed with low mass, coupled with stealthy characteristics and high manoeuvrability," says Denel spokesman Sam Basch. "For its primary role as a multi-purpose, long-range precision strike weapon, Torgos is designed to neutralise hardened targets of high strategic value.

"Its cruciform tail control makes it particularly manoeuvrable in the terminal phase of attack, which also enables Torgos to hit moving targets of opportunity."

Kentron has been involved in the development of guided weapons and missiles since the early 1970s. Its Raptor television guided glide bomb was used operationally during the 1980s. A series of variants have since been developed from this weapon for a number of customers.

"Torgos is a natural evolution from Kentron's MUPSOW (Multi-Purpose Stand-Off Weapon) advanced technology demonstrator programme," says Basch. "The latter's primary role is that of a sub-munition dispensing system, for day/night precision strike operations over long range, to neutralise targets such as airfields, air defence systems, strategic installations and command-and-control centres."

The Torgos has two modes of operation: Man-in-the-loop (MITL) through a dedicated communications link allows the pilot to direct the weapon to its target; and automatic target recognition (ATR) which uses the latest generation of thermal imagers to identify targets for attack.

Denel says the weapon, which weighs less than 1,000kg (2,200lb), has a miss distance better than 2m (6ft) and can be carried by Dassault Mirage 2000, Saab JAS-39A Gripen and Lockheed Martin F-16 fighter aircraft.

"We are offering the Torgos to prospective joint venture partners, with both MTL and autonomous ATR capability," says Basch. "The Raptor range, which is still in series production, along with the MUPSOW and Torgos, offers prospective clients a family of stand-off weapon systems to fulfil their requirements.

COMPARE QUALITY OFFERED BY SOUTH AFRICA AGAINST WHAT NIGERIA DESCRIBED AS GROUND BREAKING TECHNOLOGY

Bateleur is a medium altitude and long endurance (MALE) unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) being designed and manufactured by the South African company Denel Dynamics, principally to meet the requirements of the South African Air Force (SAAF) and South African Navy (SAN). The maiden flight of the Bateleur, which was scheduled in the first half of 2007, was delayed due to the financial crisis.

The development of Bateleur UAV has been temporarily suspended to focus on the Seeker 400 development.

The UAV will capture real time intelligence data and transmit it to the ground control station through a Ku-band satellite communication data link. Flying at a maximum altitude of 8,000m, the Bateleur will provide its operators with real time intelligence data, performing surveillance and electronic intelligence operations over a large area.

DENEL COMPANY COMPETE WITH THE BEST THAT WORLD CAN OFFER NOT LITTLE BIG MOUTHED COUNTRIES THAT CANNOT OFFER ANYTHING BUT TOOTH PICKS.

Seeker 400 is an unmanned aerial vehicle surveillance system being designed and manufactured by Denel Dynamics, South Africa. Each system will comprise four to six unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), a mission control unit (MCU), tracking and communication unit (TCU), aircraft payloads, thermal imaging camera, high resolution video camera and an optional tactical ground control station (TGCS).

The Seeker 400 is derived from its forerunner, the Seeker II aircraft. It is especially well suited to locate targets, endorse artillery fire and carry out electronic intelligence (ELINT) and electronic support measure (ESM) missions.

Flying at an altitude of up to 18,000ft, the Seeker 400 will render real time intelligence data by executing reconnaissance operations over a large area. It will capture the real time imagery of the battlefield and transmit to the TGCS through a satellite communication data link.

Airspace management of remote area desert land forward airbase near borders closer to war zone than normal NAF airbases. Thats why we or any other country will be using vehicle mobile radars. That base can be moved around and shifted anytime, its a complement to fixed permanent airbases that have superior radars with 500km range.

Dude, IFF is a small box and simple buy, plug in, and play hardware that we can fix on those 36D Tin Shield rsdars in one day !

NAF just used its own air force engineers to completely reconfigure two demilitarized Alpha jets into fully weaponized combat aircraft, so what does it take to buy and plug in a simple IFF box on a radar if we need to?

What makes you believe we have not fitted or will never fit it? You Southies thought our new Alpha Jets will remain de-militarized until NAF shocked you by reconfiguring the jets with made in Nigeria weapons. Who cares, we have many other radars with IFF and the whole of Nigerian air space is under total radar coverage with IFF already, so the mobile radars without IFF are covered by fixed radars with IFF.

Your small brain cannot think outside a small box of IFF on desert based radars in an FOB with zero air threat from Boko Haram.

THIZA, we have seen your many photos, but your SANDF remains untested in battle.

South Africa has NEVER deployed Gripen jets and Hawk jets in any combat anywhere in the world, and your current army has never deployed more than 1,900 soldiers in any battle since Mandela rebuilt SADF into SANDF.

99% of the weapons you show us in photos have NEVER been tested by SANDF in battle.

So, your military remains good ONLY INSIDE PHOTOS, the very well experienced Nigerian military is constantly tested in war from 1990 till today 2016, so Naija is NOT your mate, SA compares to other untested military forces like Zambia and Togo Republic, that is the class SANDF belongs to, sit down hollywoood photo armed forces

Let me ask you THIZA, you have all these weapons and a big South African domestic arms manufacturing industry, but can SANDF fight and defeat Algeria that is importing 99% of its weapons? Algeria will dëstroy South Africa and your local arms industry will not save you from a stronger military force.

Your arms industry does not make you more powerful than countries who import weapons.

We make 4 types of guided missile, 1 type of cruise missile and are developing a BVR missile... you think we cant build a simple rocket pod?

Probably costs around 5,000- 8,000 dollars

I dont give a sh1t about you guessing about things henry, they found you dont have it, it makes the radar allmost worthless, no evidence that the flaw has been remedied.

Pathetic, truly pathetic.

Only 7 operational air-assets
Civilian grade radar
40 year old ammunition

Shamefull really.

Maybe if you were like South Africans, and werent blinded by arrogance your military would receive the scrutiny ours does and these things would not happen grin grin

80% of South African domestic defence industry is your European white masters' companies branches opened in South Africa.

BAE is British, Reinmetall is German, SAAB is Swedish, THALES is French, Mectron is Brazillian.

The only thing you make alone is MRAP that you copied from Zimbabwe in the 1970s.

When South Africa tries to do high tech military products on it's own it fumbles and wobbles in failure....

DENEL could NOT build A-Darter missile until Brazil gave you the technology.

LinkZA data link failed to work as a real TDL because European companies refused to transfer the technology to South Africa.

Even your ordinary R-4 Rifle is a licenced copy of Israeli technology Galil rifle.
