Top 3 Militaries in Africa

1. Egypt - A capable and big military(to keep up with its foe, Israel) with sophisticated weaponry ranging from mostly Eastern and Western Europe. It has a Great Air Force, Good Army and Fair Navy.

2. South Africa - A small but highly trained and capable Military backed up by a very good indigenous military Industrial Complex. Over 70% of the equipment is home-made and of an international standard. It has a Great Army, Good Air Force and Great Navy - The only Navy in Africa with a Blue Naval Status.

3. Ethiopia - Has a high number of Army personnel( In proportion to it's poor economy) but nonetheless the Army is very experienced. It has no Navy because it is now a landlocked country but has a good air force.

Another article for all it's worth.

Excerpt:

Another anonymous source cited by ThisDay Live said: 'You remember what happened in Sierra Leone, after our troops had done the major thing, won the war, secured the peace.

First came the British to take the glory and then an Indian Lt-Gen. Vijay Jetly was given the command of the operations by the UN. Now they are bringing one Maj.-Gen. from Rwanda after using us to do the dirty work'. These statements show the level of Nigeria's disappointment with the UN.

The Nigerian pull-out from MINUSMA has been a blow to the UN contingent, which still faces many challenges in meeting its targeted capacity of 11 200 soldiers and 1 440 policemen.

Satellites do not win the war, sophisticated weapons do. Satellites are very slow and you cannot watch any area on land anytime you want to. They are all channeled to orbit the earth from North to South and once it passes the target it cannot go back since it will collide with other thousand satellites in space, including junks. They take long to download pictures and are only good to be used as a research tool, because you cannot used them on a real time war zone. Drones are more efficient than satellites since they are able to defend themselves against fighter jets and can even go on the same spot over and over again. There is no any pilot who would ever risk his life fighting robots with an expensive machine. Drones have the potential to destroy fighter jets in a dog fight. More and more miniature-version of missiles ranging from AAM and ATGM are designed to arm this new technology.

I can't believe that this s.tupid comment ever came from you. Weapons cannot operate themselves, but will always be operated by people. I don't know if you could see where do I lead you to about the use of modern weapons. It doesn't matter how intelligent you are but without the use of efficient sophisticated weapons you cannot win the war. Intelligence and strategising are all abstract and ideological, hence weapons are the one which physically do the job and win you the war.

So tell me do you by any chance go to war zone carrying satellites as weapons to fight with? Did you defeat BH with your weapons or satellites because we all know that your satellites were unable to spy on BH activities which were done under thick bushes, until the US come of some help to deploy their drones. It was only then that they picked up the BH's hidden anti- aircraft guns nicely comourflaged in thick bushes.

It seems as if you are suffering from a mind. Well, I hope that even a retard will apply his mind better than yours. My take was that it has never proven yet that Nigeria is a wealthiest country in Africa, since nobody has proven it through thorough research to convince the world that Nigeria is richer than South Africa and Congo in terms of mineral reserves. Hence it will be very unfair to use such speculations in any academic work because the professors will disapprove it based on fiction and opinion. SA and Congo were well proven by academic research to be the most wealthiest countries in Africa and thus it will be sound to use such as evidence in everywhere even before the court of law.
The only nation in africa through current research analysis that can claim to have more natural resources through than Nigeria is congo.
Even then i believe with more exploration and research,Nigeria should at least be at par with congo if not better.
SA on the other hand has never be proven by any accurate research to have as much resources as Nigeria.
Hell, Nigeria though smaller than SA, has more arable land.
Nigeria trumps SA even in agricultural potential.

From this post which you have just posted I could clearly see that your highest attained qualification can never go beyond high school. South Africa has been proven ages ago through research to have more mineral potential than Nigeria. Let us not even speak of Nigeria because it does not even come any close. Most minerals found in Nigeria are just only traces and can never be mined on the large scale, ever asked yourself why investors are not even interested, because the cost of mining those traces of mineral will be more than the minerals per se. Americans and British left their homes ages ago to come to South Africa brought by most expensive minerals in the world, that is gold, diamonds and platinum. According, to research there is no gold, diamonds and platinum in the world which has more value than those you get in South Africa.

In terms of research conducted by citigroup (2010), which is the most recent, countries around the world which had potential of mineral wealth were selected and the investigation ensued to findout which of those countries had the most reserves. South Africa against all odds was objectively found out to be the richest country in the world by analytical research (http://www.npconline.co.za/pebble.asp?relid=163) and the most sound one to indulge in is this one

please correct your many errors grin

pages 1 to 845 of this thread has opened up details all the major african military powers in great depth that far superior to any other source in the world, not even Janes Defence Magazine, IISS, United Nations Arms Sales Log, SIPRI weapons database, or CIA factbook, no, not even one of the world class sources can match the military information on african countries that you will find on this thread.

you came very late, but i will help you with a summary.

Egypt's navy is not just fair, as good as that of South Africa, Algeria, and Nigeria.

Egypt's navy has 321 warships and crafts far more than South African navy's 40 warships and crafts

Egyptian navy has 6 submarines including the same Type 209 submarines as south africa that has 3 submarines

Egyptian navy has about 400 anti-ship missiles with range of over 200km, but south africa has only about 13 anti-ship missiles with range of only 70km.

Egyptian navy will sink the whole South African navy to sea bottom in one day.

So how did you say south africa has the only blue water navy in africa ? are you sick or drunk ?

what of Egypt's navy ? what of Algerian navy with Valour frigates same as south africa and Algeria has Russian submarines. what of Morocco's navy that has FREMM Frigate the most powerful warship in africa bigger and more powerful than south african valour frigates ? what of nigerian navy that has 40 Otomat anti-ship missiles on NNS ARADU a huge frigate once the most powerful in africa ?

about 7 african countries have a blue water navy, NOT only south africa. stop misinforming people and deluding yourself in delusion grin

ALL, i mean ALL south african major weapons that can win a war for you, are NOT made in south africa, they are all imported from Europe :

Gripen jet is made in Sweden
Hawk jet is made in Britain
Rooivalk helicopter engine is made in France
Super Lynx helicopter is made in Britain/Italy
Hercules C-130 aircraft is made in U.S.A
Augusta A109 helicopter is a product of Italy
Dakota aircraft is made in Britain/U.S.A
Olifant tank is the Centurion tank made in Britain
Badger Armoured vehicle is a product of Finland
Valour frigate warships are made in Germany
Type 209 Submarines are made in Germany

so now tell us how south african military can fight any war without all these imported European weapons ?

south african defense industry may be trying some small weapons, but it is NOT strong enough to make you number two military power in africa.

now to south african army. 50,000 soldiers is too small, if you fight algeria, nigeria, ethiopia that have 150,000 to 200,000 battle tested and experienced soldiers, they will just surround and encircle south africa's tiny inexperienced army of HIV infected ANC bushmen rebels recruited into your army to replace the better white south african soldiers who have now retired, resigned, and walked away with their experience and skills, thus making south african army very weak, cowardly and afraid to die in war, only happy to collect monthly salaries from army accounts department.

reason why south african army union had no courage of men to go back to C.A.R and defeat Seleka rebels that used SANDF paratroopers for shooting practice in march this year.

more reason why south african army is hiding behind tanzanian army for leadership and protection in Congo DRC war with ordinary M23 rebels.

south african air force Gripen jets have only 6 qualified pilots, only one missile each per aircraft, and about half of the Gripen jets are in long term cold storage with many missing spare parts used to service the few that are flying. all Augusta AW109 helicopters are grounded and unable to fly.

south african military is number 5 in africa, behind egypt, nigeria, algeria, ethiopia. FACT !!!

no you are lost behind time and modern technology.

now take corrections for your many errors cheesy

only 3 standard satellites are needed to monitor the whole earth at once from their different orbital positions, they cover the earth's surface and the user gets images and reports equal to real time.

even if a country has only one satellite, it goes around the earth many times in a day, and it will get you images around the globe in a few hours or days depending on its altitude in space.

there is no way south african military will marshal a large force and remain hidden from enemy spy satellite imaging. Britain and Argentian used satellites to get advantage over each other in 1982 falklands war. they could see each others navy warships and masses of army troops and equipment on ground, then they plan attacks or counter attacks.

you fly a drone to spy a country like ordinary Kenya, the drone gets shot down immediately.

a nigerian satellite can photograph a bicycle parked at the door of a house in johannesburg, they are that powerful.

the quickest way to lose a war is to be seen by your enemy while you cannot see him.

south african army did not see seleka rebels massing 2,500 men against them, because you have no satellites in pretoria, then you become a blind bat army of soweto republic, and get k.illed without any notice cheesy

nigerian army can stay in a CAR bangui city, fix in satellite GPS earth optical receivers/tarnsmitters at city major roads and in a circle around our troops position, and watsh Seleka rebels before they come, then we knwo our enemy's movements. south africa CANNOT fight war at that level. FACT !!!

satellites dont orbit north to south, they orbit east to west, the english word orbit means moving around in a circle from side to side, not up and down cheesy

satellites hardly ever collide with each other, very very rare, or else why do we still have thousands of satellites working well in space today ? you think outer space in the universe is the same size as your country south africa ? your geography text book was stolen while you were sleeping cheesy

drones need fuel to fly, satellites dont. drones fly for hours and run out of fuel, satellites orbit for 24 hours everyday. drones can be shot down by anti-aircraft defences, satellites cannot be shot down.

nigeria used our satellites to spy on and image an american airport 10,000km away from lagos, i posted that weblink source and image here months ago, and america could not stop us from getting that image and photo. now you fly a south african drone to america and take photos of an american airport 10,000km away from soweto and let us see what will happen to your country and your drone cheesy

can't you read your own source ? only metal minerals are mentioned in that source, NO oil and gas mentioned.

only a fool will say south africa is richer than saudi arabia, kuwait, nigeria, iran, iraq, libya, etc.

okay if you say minerals in the technical sense by excluding oil and gas.

then we will say natural resources wealth extracted by mining, so oil and gas being hydrocarbons will be counted.

so in terms of all natural resources that are mined, NIGERIA IS THE RICHEST COUNTRY IN AFRICA, fact !!!!

south africa has $2.5 trillion mineral wealth according to your sources of expert researchers and university professors.

OPEC world respected data says nigeria has 40 billion barrels of crude oil reserves, multiply it by the $100 per barrel price of oil and you get $4 trillion for nigeria, that already beats south africa's $2.5 trillion metallic mineral wealth.

now go to OPEC website and add nigerian gas and bitumen reserves which are many times more than our crude oil, then go to nigerian solid minerals official government website and add our metallic minerals like iron ore, coal, uranium, and you see how nigeria will dwarf south africa like an elephant will dwarf a goat cheesy

did you read your own source ?

error number one, south africa has NO satellite as at today ? so how does it launch a third one to join the other two that dont exist ?

DETAILS :

I'm still waiting for a verifiable source for your 419 figure of $30 trillion, you guys are known scammers, all the links you gave didn't prove any of your exaggerated claims about Nigerias mineral wealth.

I suppose you have to have yourself admited at psychiatric hospital. There is no country in the world which has more than $30 trillion in mineral resources. Barrel of oil itself is way far below the price of gold and platinum. I suggest you go back to the school which you attended and demand back all that you ever contributed for your education.

I knew you were gona come with some criticism inspired by your ignorance to move with time in this information age. Cube satellites are new form of satellites first developed in America. These satellites are compartible with the modern times of technology we are living in and can even perform better than old big satellites. They are much faster than big satellites and some rotate the earth 3 x more than an ordinary satellites, that is fifteen times a day, however giving you 15 chances to explore the same area over and over again.

I wonder if you were still born when cellphones were as big as a brick and look now how small have they become. Computers were also as that big and today we have tablets and notebooks.

South Africa will invest more and more on those nano-satellites because they are more manageble than the big ones and more durable. We are playing safe chief and we do not want to polute space with so many junks some as big as a train.

nigeria used our satellites to spy on and image an american airport 10,000km away from lagos, i posted that weblink source and image here months ago, and america could not stop us from getting that image and photo. now you fly a south african drone to america and take photos of an american airport 10,000km away from soweto and let us see what will happen to your country and your drone cheesy

that's a big lie bros cheesy

those cube satellites are for university students experiments NOT military modern warfare

"Beginning in 1999, California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) and Stanford University developed the CubeSat specifications to help universities worldwide to perform space science and exploration.

In 2004, with their relatively small size, CubeSats could each be made and launched for an estimated $65,000–$80,000.This price tag, far lower than most satellite launches, has made CubeSat a viable option for schools and universities across the world. Because of this, a large number of universities and some companies and government organizations around the world are developing CubeSats — between 40 and 50 universities in 2004, Cal Poly reported"

that south africa cube of sugar is only good enough for my cup of gari cheesy

experimental school cubes satellites cost about $70,000 but real standard national satellites cost about $100 million .

south africa know that thing is like a toy for experiments, and contrary to your second lie, south africa is desperate to get a real satellite like nigeria in future ....

South Africa considering investing R450m in new standard size big satellite

http://www.engineeringnews.co.za/article/south-africa-considering-investing-r450-million-in-new-satellite-2012-10-12[b]

now go kiss your canvas shoes in the mud...south africa MUST bow to nigeria's satellite spy power military superiority in war, nigeria is your master.
