Welcome. You are a senor lawyer, and I hope new wigs will learn a lot from your experience and the struggle so far. I am 4 years at the bar, but I feel when the need arises, I can share my experience and drop hints for colleagues both on a professional level and starting a promising career in law.
Apart from your academic credentials, what practice experience do you have? And with exactitude, in what area of practice lies your strength and passion?
Re: Lawyers Help Zone And Hang Out by Hidentity(m): 9:10pm On Jan 12
Take it easy, my brother. Do not because of the fear of the unknown lose out on the known. Concentrate first. This may sound more philosophical than realistic, but I am convinced that success is among the cheapest commodity you can 'purchase' with the right negotiating skills. Work hard, repeat your 2:1 feat in the law school and ensure you understand the principles, not just to cram. I am in Abuja. When it is time for your internship, I will be willing to help you with a slot in the firm (provided you can work your way to getting posted to the firm). I will ensure you're taken and not rejected.
After this, hard work, creativity, esteem and excellence exuded by you will afford you a place for service and then maybe eventually, employment.

Honestly, I do not think the conditions are too stringent. Maybe they didn't make the point clear. Or is there anything there I need to explain to you better?
I'll advise you to apply. Life is discouraging enough, we should encourage ourselves and not pull out already. Try it
Re: Lawyers Help Zone And Hang Out by wasak(m): 9:39pm On Jan 12
Hidentity:I went through the it, the conditions aren't too stringent, but the tone used is a very strict tone, more like a no-nonsense tone.
Re: Lawyers Help Zone And Hang Out by Hidentity(m): 9:43pm On Jan 12
wasak:No job should allow nonsense. I believe you're a no nonsense person too. So, apply

Lawyers in the house I have a question. Is it possible to sue a website or forums that promote hate and what will the charges be like? Thank you.
Re: Lawyers Help Zone And Hang Out by Hidentity(m): 8:25pm On Jan 13
Promote hate? How? Hate to who? What is your relationship with the people against whom hate are purportedly promoted?
Re: Lawyers Help Zone And Hang Out by Sapiosexuality(m): 8:31am On Jan 14
Hidentity:Hate among users and state. Let's say I'm just a visitor.
Re: Lawyers Help Zone And Hang Out by Hidentity(m): 9:05am On Jan 14
Sapiosexuality:I still feel the necessary questions to ensure clarity and understanding of the said hate, circumstance it is promoted, the nature of the hate and whether it is even hate are yet to be answered. If you're the one who wants to sue here, I have not seen how you have the legal right to sue. You admitted that you're a visitor (you're not affected by the said hate), and you have not stated that the people against whom hate is being promoted have approached you to take up their case. I think we need to be more clear. If it bothers on human rights, then any member of the public can take it up, but this is not. Or maybe, if you explain better, it can be.
Also note, if the said hate is the type on Nairaland i.e tribal bashing and those crass remarks, you cannot sue Nairaland or Seun Osewa. Ordinarily, each member of a forum like this is solely responsible for whatever he or she posts and the consequence. This was even made clear by the content you'll see prior to making any post. An outfit of this type cannot be in control of the thought and expression of its members or visitors. The best it can do is to review each post, which I notice is done automatically by the screening of words like "I.diots". From the number of posts that are written daily, the review articles in news websites get prior to publishing cannot apply here. So, again, I ask for a detailed explanation.
Re: Lawyers Help Zone And Hang Out by Sapiosexuality(m): 9:10am On Jan 14
Hidentity:What about a case where it is evident the forum or website is encouraging the hatred? A situation where words like 'Idiot.s' can be reviewed but aren't reviewed. Where a person cusses the members and different people of the country and he's allowed to continue just for traffic. Where everyone spread hate speeches among themselves and nothing is done to curb it. What if you can see that it is purposely ignored by the owner of the site or forum. Is it still impossible? Thank you, so far.
Re: Lawyers Help Zone And Hang Out by Hidentity(m): 9:25am On Jan 14
Re: Lawyers Help Zone And Hang Out by Hidentity(m): 9:26am On Jan 14
Now, I suppose I understand the circumstance birthing the question. Let me be brief. If a person on the forum is ALLOWED to cuss other members and different people of the country to PROMOTE traffic, an action can find its way in the breach of public peace. Where EVERYONE spread hate speeches and NOTHING is done to curb it, it vests the said outfit with the garment of one created for the purpose of spreading and promoting hate. If one can SEE that the OWNER PURPOSELY ignored the anomaly, there is a cause of action by a person or group of people affected. HOWEVER, you should pay attention to the capitalized words and phrases. They are factors that must be established to exist before instituting such action. It is hard to show that a forum that bans people making offensive comments and screen certain words is PURPOSELY promoting such, but it is not IMPOSSIBLE.
NOTE: Any legal opinion I express here does not represent an exhaustive position of the law on that subject. So, you can meet your lawyer.
Re: Lawyers Help Zone And Hang Out by Goddys(m): 11:01am On Jan 14
Hidentity:Sir, with all due respect and as a learned member of the bar trained to have an eagle's eye, you ought to have noticed these stringent conditions at a glance. One of the conditions is having a deep fluency in Yoruba language. I don't need to point out others...
Re: Lawyers Help Zone And Hang Out by Hidentity(m): 12:50pm On Jan 14
At first, I was going to respond in the manner you responded vis-a-vis your first paragraph, but I advised myself against it. You don't bark corrections at people regardless of your age, status, idea of yourself, opinion of your knowledge or achievement. To think I didn't even see the said conditions is strange, because I did. Trust me, there are more than enough lawyers that fit into that class, and when they make use of that opportunity, we are one short of unemployed lawyers.
When I first saw that condition, I felt it was unfair, but then, that entity isn't owned by the government, so the feeling of entitlement and balance may not absolutely apply. He or she can choose to employ whoever he or she wants. Secondly, with your eagle eyes (which must be coupled with a sharp mind and attention to details), you should have discerned that such person may have to deal with local or grassroots people who do not have a grasp of English language. Since you're eagle-eyed, you should have read that part in conjunction with schedule 3, clause 2. That might have informed you that the NGO is dealing mostly on human rights and the individuals being dealt with may be indigents who are in a Yoruba dominated environment.
With all sense of discretion, I take exception to your first paragraph. Please friend, as a lawyer, be guided in your language. Typing or reacting should only come after comprehension and an exhaustive appreciation of an issue for deliberation. All the learned member of the bar trained to have eagle's eye part is very unnecessary. No one is trying to steal a march here. Let us try our best for our friends, and let people who are in need of help get it instead of creating a storm in a tea cup.

Hidentity:I never meant to appear antagonistic the way you portray it. We may have different opinion on this as what I pointed out was one of the stringent conditions there. However, if you are offended by the tone of my post, I am sorry. I just made my point.

There are many litigation firms that pay well. Maybe you've not applied to any, or maybe they have their requirements which you must meet.
