sexybbstar:This is the only sensible comment on this thread. Many are just saying all sorts of rubbish here. It is unfortunate that Nigeria has to adopt English as a language of education and that is what draws us back in the area of technological advancement. They don't speak English in China, Japan, Korea, etc. If you want to study in Russia, They will teach you Russian language first for 12 months before you begin your course. It is compulsory. The same thing happens in other non English speaking countries. Majority of medical doctors in India cannot speak English. This is country where Nigerians go for medical treatment. |

CharleyBright:You have a lot of problems. You did go to school but you are not educated. You had better go and read book. Once someone cannot express himself in English, he is not brilliant? definitely, your grandfather and possibly, your father are dullard. Majority of professionals in China, Japan, Germany, Italy, Russia, Belgium, Korea, Spain, Brazil, and so on and so forth who cannot speak English are monumental waste You are a slowpoke. |

quiverfull: The fundammental mistake you and many like you are making is to believe formal education must happen in English We need to rethink that. Ask anyone who lives in Belgium in Wales ,in Quebec. etc Why can't they be educated in Hausa. Like I always repeat .Whatever the languagewhen the go to market they know he correct change https://qz.com/355444/tanzania-dumps-english-as-its-official-language-in-schools-opts-for-kiswahili/ Many of us who claim to be educated cannot THINK Thinking means challenging orthodoxy and challenging ourselves. Please tell me why we cannot have the entire curriculum in Hausa Language WHY NOT? Are we to believe that evaporation, germ theory of disease, epproduction, combustion etc cannot be taught in Hausa? There is no developed country in the world that educates its people in a language that is not native to them, 1 Like |

sexybbstar: Tor! You just mentioned what many refuse to see. No matter how we take it, English is till a borrowed/second language. You realize that when you go to USA/UK/Canada, etc. If we had a proper regional system, we could use one regional language each alongside English in formal education. That way the problem of comprehension & pronunciation of English many face would not hinder their ability to be effective in their job. A journalist wrote something similar years ago. He witnessed a SW teacher struggle to explain her subject to her students in English. After the lesson, he was discussing with the teacher in Yoruba language. He said he was amazed how fluent and articulate she was in Yoruba. His conclusion was that the teacher would have been a far better teacher if the language of instruction was Yoruba. It is the same across Nigeria. Maybe just a bit more in the North because of the dominance of Hausa in daily life. 2 Likes 1 Share |

AreaFada2: Why is English so hard for an average Northerner to speak and write, even the educated ones? After spending years studying a language one is expected to have a good command of it or should we conclude that you people are not just intelligent enough. For example, if the same group of people were exposed to another intellectual language e.g. German, they will still find it difficult to grasp. In conclusion, it seems like the intelligence quotient of an average Northerner is low. |
