A father who lost one of his sons in a house fire has described how he ran through flames in a desperate bid to save him.

Nathan Perry, 34, woke up to a flickering light and the smell of smoke, and immediately realised there was a fire. He rushed to the bedroom where his two sons were sleeping, to try and pull them to safety.


‘I had to run through the flames and drag the children out. I did what I could,’ he told 9 News. All three were taken to hospital, but tragically his son Blade, 4, did not recover and they had to switch off his life support. ‘I feel like I failed because Blade didn’t make it,’ Nathan said.
Their mum Tamika Frid drove through the night to be with them at the hospital after hearing what happened at the home in Weranga, Australia, on Tuesday.

‘It was the worst day of my life,’ she told the channel.
‘Everything was just a dream … can we just wake up and everything will just be better again?’ Their other son Jeremy is still in an induced coma with burns to 90% of his body. ‘He’s going to get through this and his brother is right there with him,’ Tamika said. ‘Always tell you kids you love them and give them as many hugs as you can because you don’t know what will happen the next day.’ MORE: Three in five diabetes patients struggle with mental health issues MORE: ‘Hero’ son didn’t tell family he was dying because he didn’t want to upset them
