Wenger is backing his players to maintain an Easter tradition with their very own 'resurrection' in the Nou Camp tonight. Arsenal have been written off in most quarters since they drew 2-2 with Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League Quarter-Final. Barcelona were hugely impressive at Emirates Stadium and injuries to Cesc Fabregas, Andrey Arshavin, William Gallas and Alex Song have only lengthened Arsenal's odds ahead of the second leg. But Wenger's team have defied the odds on numerous occasions this season. They have bridged 11-point and nine-point gaps to stay in the race for the Premier League title, rescued plenty of points with late goals and fought back from a two-goal deficit against Barcelona last week. Now Wenger believes his players can lift themselves once more at the home of the European champions. "The players have come back from the dead once and can do it again," said Wenger. "They know they escaped being out of the competition and we have a chance we have to take tomorrow. It's Easter you know, a time of resurrection. That's what we want to do tomorrow night. "The late come-backs this season show that this team has character. We've shown that consistently throughout the season. We were written off before the season started, but there are five games to go in the Premier League and we are still in there. "In the Champions League it's the same. People have written us off, but we're halfway through and will give a good game to Barcelona." AMEN!! |
