Today on our natural health news segment we shall be talking about
malaria and its various facts.

The whole idea is to teach those in need of such simple facts. After all no knowledge is to be considered a waste of time.

To achieve our aim, we shall be borrowing the needed info from WHO Factfiles nd other credible sources.

Malaria Facts
1. Malaria is caused by parasites that are transmitted to people through the bites of infected mosquitoes.

2. Nearly half of the world’s population is at risk of malaria.

3. Children under 5 are at high risk of malaria.

4. Malaria mortality rates are falling.

5. Early diagnosis and prompt
treatment of malaria prevents deaths.

6. Emerging parasite resistance to artemisinin-based combination therapies for uncomplicated malaria now a major concern.

7. Sleeping under insecticide-treated mosquito nets protects against malaria.

8. Indoor residual spraying is the most effective way to rapidly reduce malaria transmission.

9. Pregnant women are particularly at high risk of dying of complication from severe malaria.

0. Sub-Saharan Africa continues to carry a disproportionately high share of the global malaria burden. In 2015, the region was home to 90% of malaria cases and 92% of malaria deaths.

1. Increased prevention and control measures have led to a 29% reduction in malaria mortality rates globally since 2010.

2. In 2016, there were an estimated 216 million cases of malaria in 91 countries, an increase of 5 million cases over 2015.

3. Malaria is a life-threatening disease caused by parasites that are transmitted to people through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. It is preventable and curable.

4. There are 5 parasite species that cause malaria in humans, and 2 of these species – P. falciparum and P. vivax – pose the greatest threat.

5. P. falciparum is the most prevalent malaria parasite on the African continent. It is responsible for most malaria-related deaths globally.

6. P. vivax is the dominant malaria parasite in most countries outside of sub-Saharan Africa.
