Thankfully, the Chinese and Indians are not imperialistic. They only care for our resources on the cheap to better their economies and don't give a flying f*ck how we manage our affairs, as long as nothing happens to deals made.

And the West is careful about allowing Germany to gain too much an influence outside Europe (a country that started two world wars and even rose to become the current largest economy in Europe must always be scrutinized).

The interesting thing tho' is that the industrialized countries treat Africa like a room shared by sibs. Everyone has their own sphere of influence and they all respect each other's boundaries. Apparently, the Berlin Conference never ended with the independence of African countries.

All former British colonies belong to the commonwealth. And no other world power interferes in the affairs of a Commonwealth nation without getting the nod from Britain. For example, during the civil war, the Americans preferred for Nigeria to be divvied up, but Britain wanted the opposite and the US capitulated.

Another recent example is the Gbagbo incident. While the AU was seeking soft landing for Gbagbo, the West sensed the reluctance of the AU/ECOWAS to storm the Presidential Palace, but resolved to let the French do as they deem fit with full backing since Ivory Coast is within their sphere of influence. French special forces led the assault.

Even the very recent Zimbabwe coup more allied with China. Mnanganwa went to China to get their blessings. And after China got reassurance that it wouldn't be bloody, they shared the coup plan with the US, UK, and Russia before giving the go ahead.

All of this is why we'd remain the most underdeveloped continent for as long as the world exists. Because after the Arabs had their fill, the Europeans continued from where they stopped, China and India are now having their turn. In the near future, it'd be Mexico, Brazil and Indonesia. Maybe by the time we come to our senses, mankind would have already started colonizing other planets and wouldn't need Africa's resources that much any more.

I wonder what that'd mean for the dark continent. If the developed world would be more likely then than now to send aid that's always misused.
