It was a mixed feeling today as the Bishop on the Niger - Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Dr Owen Nwokolo reached out to five thousand families with #30million worth of food items in the Diocese who are experiencing hardship as a result of the total lockdown order by both Federal and State Governments.

Bishop Nwokolo who unveiled this earlier today in the Bishopscourt, reiterated that the lockdown order has impacted negatively on most families.

He charged churches and well-to-do individuals to extent kind gesture to vulnerable families around them.

Speaking shortly after the presentation, the most senior Archdeacon in the Diocese On The Niger Ven Obi Ubaka, the Archdeacon of Onitsha Main Archdeaconry thanked the Bishop On The Niger for the kind gesture, pledging that the Priests would ensure that the targeted families are reached. He prayed God Almighty to bless the Diocese On The Niger.

Kaduna gets highest, Katsina, Benue lowest as FG shares N43bn among 24 states

On April 29, 20207:51 pm

Kaduna State achieved the highest number of results (nine) and got the highest share with N3. 960 billion, while Katsina and Benue got the lowest amount of N540 million each as Federal Government disbursed the sum of N43,416,000,000.00 ($120.6 million) to 24 states. The fund is through a performance-based grant under the World Bank-Assisted States Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability (SFTAS) Programme-for-Results.

SFTAS is wholly-financed with a loan of $750 million from the International Development Association (IDA), a member of the World Bank Group.

On the Eligibility Criteria (EC), the minister said that States had to meet in order to be eligible to receive any grants included: the online publication of the approved annual budget and audited financial statement for the previous year.

The 24 states were said to have achieved: improved financial reporting and budget reliability; increased openness and citizens’ engagement in the budget process; improved cash management and reduced revenue leakages through the implementation of State Treasury Single Account (TSA); strengthened Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) collection; biometric registration and Bank Verification Number (BVN) used to reduce payroll fraud.

The 24 beneficiary states who were: Abia, Adamawa, Bauchi, Benue, Delta, Edo, Ekiti, Enugu, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Ondo, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Sokoto, Taraba and Yobe states.

THE World Bank, on Tuesday, said 12 states missed out on its $4.5 million (N1.37 billion) State Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability (SFTAS) Programme for Results 2018 grant for not meeting the eligibility criteria.

Ms Yue Lee, Senior Economist and SFTAS Team Leader, World Bank Office in Nigeria, made the disclosure at the ongoing Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) 2020 retreat in Lagos.

She said the Annual Performance Assessment (APA) for 2018 would be published on the SFTAS website which would soon become operational, while disbursement to the 24 benefiting states would begin in March.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the SFTAS is an agreement signed between the Federal Government and the World Bank, designed to strengthen the fiscal transparency, accountability and sustainability in Nigerian states.

It aims to improve their revenue base, increase fiscal efficiency in public expenditure and reduce their debts with a grant of $750 million open to the 36 states between 2018 and 2021, according to their performances.

Lee said the states which were declared ineligible for 2018 failed to publish their annual budgets and audited financial statements as stipulated by the Disbursement-Linked Indicators (DLI), among others.

She expressed optimism that most states would meet the 2019 eligibility criteria and would, therefore, be able to benefit from the grant.

I fervently hope we begin to patronize our own businesses and farmers in procuring these palliatives in these hard times.

From my inquiry into where the trailers of rice distributed by Igbo individuals to many communities, they were procured from northern trucks which are still the only businesses operating nationwide unhindered. Thus, the only people that keep smiling to the banks are the HAUSA/FULANI farmers!

Igbo philanthropists buy up all their perishable agricultural products and cows from northerners because their FG will not give any palliatives to Ibos.

Yet, they take all our money meant for palliatives to our poor brethren!

Onitsha is looking good i must say, but if you were to give Obiano suggestions to make it look better what would they be?

Pesonally i think the waterfront embankment as is, is wasted and could be turned into a tourist attraction of some sort.

If you want to improve Onitsha you have to transform its markets from the primitive unplanned hovels that they are into what you see in places like Dubai, Hong Kong and Guangzhou.

This is what a market in China looks like:

Go fix your miserable self first before looking for who to advise. Why not start by building it in your village to prove a point. You know all these but your life is still in shambles.

The only place you share knowledge is on nairaland, why didn't Harvard university employ you with all your so called knowledge. Almost everyone here have told you that your inputs are not needed here.Useless old man

Cjrane2 when shall you open Delta state thread, so you can go stay there with your kith and kins to discuss Delta development? cheesy

Inspection of ongoing works at the ICC Awka. The quality of work looks top-notch and the project itself looks quite massive.

The Governor says they're planning to build a int'l hotel to compliment the conference centre, and this will be done with private funds.

Massive but a long way from completion. I wonder why they did not use Structural steel for the structural frame which would have been far faster than reinforced concrete. The idea of building another hotel is not cost effective not when the state has already spent considerable money on Agulu Lake Hotel which is less than 15km away but takes a long time because travelling through Awka is frustrated by the chaos of Eke Awka. The obvious solution is doing what should have been done since which is relocating the market elsewhere to Agu-Awka.

Otherwise the Conference Center will help attract business investment to the state. They should accelerate construction.

Your inputs are not needed here. In your haste to make your usual useless and baseless post you didn't watch the video to hear that the governor said the 5-star hotel will be financed by private investors. Use that your wisdom to fix your miserable life first. Nobody needs your useless and incoherent inputs. Useless frustrated vagabond. Again, use your wisdom to fix your miserable life and leave us alone, we don't need your advise here.

This is a quality project and will stand out as the best in Nigeria. From the video the governor said that a 5 star hotel, the size of Transcorp in Abuja will be located near the facility to accommodate 10k population that will visit the ICC at each occasion. Good idea! Good development!
