The Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, and members of the National Union of Local Government Employees [NULGE]are having a different view on how the Paris Club Fund should be shared.

The governor said during an interview said that the last tranche of Paris Club Fund just collected is meant for the state government alone.

He said, “The payment made to the local governments in the previous tranche was at the expense of the staff of the state government as they will now be the beneficiaries of the present tranche”.

But some staff of the 16 Local Government Areas in the state held an emergency State Executive Council meeting where they condemned the move by the governor, stating that they have certain percentages in the funds.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the State President of the National Union of Local Government Employees[NULGE], Salihu Yusuf, noted that local government is one of the contributors to the repayment of Paris Club Loan and therefore should benefit from the refund of the overpayment.

The union also directed its state chapters to demand the payment of the salary arrears of local government workers from the Paris Club Loans refund.

The Nulge’s National Trustee, Fatai Ibrahim, said that state chapters where are being denied funds will continue to dialogue or embark on an industrial action to press home their needs.
