I’m an MIHS mum(2014) & that’s all I was given too.. though I printed out my online account details (MIHS MEDICAL CHART HISTORY) as well and took all along. I applied for visit Visa in 2018. Was invited for the 221G interview(transcript was sent to the house January 2019) i was granted the Visa, to the Glory of God! Please note: I prayed hard & kept FAITH. Some who paid 6k - 10k had been refused, imagine me paying $2,888. Gods Grace prevailed.

Very encouraging and the way it should be! Mums with previous birth discounts, don't despair. I remember how especially hard it was in 2016/17 to get PTA dollars as little as $4,000 at official rate, with black market at almost N500 at the time, even with discounted bills, it was a struggle so no bill from that time can really be called 'cheap.'. To be a self-pay patient is not beans o; we agree that it is their country and their discretion but VOs should try to be more realistic and accomodating if they're not just looking for excuses to deny visa re-issues.

Actually Canada is a lot more stringent than the US with regards to birth tourism. You might want to google birth/maternity tourism Canada to infom yourselves better before you make a decision.

Im not sure its the abuse part, I think its the deceitful way we Nigerians try to do things, always doing things by lying and cutting corners. If we as a nation were a nation known for our honor and integrity, intead of our scam and curruption culture in addition to reinforcing this in the lies some say during interviews, I believe a different song would be playing as it is in other countries that go for maternity tourism to the US without any glitches.

Right now, I believe the best way is honesty during your interview, and to those who can pay more, do so. Others may also way to call back their doctors to pay the discounts since this seems to be the “excuse” the VO’s are using, as someone mentioned

U cant pay anytin ones ur account has been closed. I know people currently in this situation and they were told its not possible due to account closure

I would advice that when you travel by May try and do your Canadian visa in us it takes about 1 or 2 weeks that way when you are renewing your us visa you won’t be desperate and having the Canadian visa will help your case. You can also renew your us visa before it expires.

Morning house, I got a visa 2 years ago and things came up, I couldn’t use it since. Now I’m booked to travel by may. I want to give brith in America but I’m not pregnant yet, now I know my visa will expire shortly before I’m due all things being equal. If my visa is expiring November and I’m to give birth dec or early January, how do I go about that?

Plz I would appreciate answers as I don’t want to do anything to jeopardize future travels, thanks.

El Paso is accepting payment from patients who wish to pay their discounts, it's been mentioned several times. It's unfortunate that people have made payments toward the hospital and doctor, not owing anything, just to receive a receipt of paying a higher bill, but its available. Its also been mentioned that El Paso is still honoring the previous prices but the hospital and doctors (www.doctoresparati.com) will also bill more if the patient wishes to pay more.

Wow! So sorry, I remember I had same issue while trying to get itemized receipts from all the providers.
Funny enough, Sheridan responded and sent my bill via email, so also Dr Fitzhugh.
I had issues with both Henrico and NAPA. It took like 3weeks before NAPA sent my receipts through email.
The financial counselor at Henrico insisted on not removing the almost 10,000usd discount.
I agree with you, if Henrico can be avoided. Ppl should because I have not been able to renew my visa.
drafrican:
Good afternoon,
This is both a complaint and a warning
Had baby @ Henricos richmond been calling financial counsellor everyday for the past 21 days and sent 14 emails ,to help me with a letter saying i dint use medicaid or insurance no responce left messages and contact of my sil in usa no reply.

Called sheridan they promised to send a letter

Called NAPA they said they cannot help

Called the lab they use they said they cannot help

Its really scary i cant make any contact with henricos ve called fithugh he sent his and fc number who is incommunicado called hospital same thing.

If you can honestly avoid henricos i think you should the hospital i had baby no 1 responded with all i need in 24 hrs now am stuck.

How do i defend my bill......

You may not agree but avoid them if you can

Pls if there is any mother in virginia that has an appointment with fitzhugh and can help me stop by the financial counsellor i will be grateful

Thank you

Thanks for this, been meaning to post something like this too where at least a few names will be referenced. A little study will pop this up, but no we won’t study. We rather prefer to align to everything hearsay!

Truth be told, we are all speculating yet. But we have a real issue at hand, an annoying one at that! I have read several takes and keep wondering what the way forward should be on this actually. The representative of Doctoresparati Vlesparza has tried in their little way to make some clarifications as well as those that have attended the 221g interviews particularly and some legally resident Nigerians in the US on this thread, nothing still clear.

Some are even contemplating paying up the difference per what was discounted even when some of the facilities are insisting they are not indebted to them. This situation is pretty bad now! The ones that will accept such offers after making it clear our people owe nothing, of what importance is this really? Why are our people being punished and made to look like “dumbos” just like that? These are people that felt they didn’t have to be like others, no “misbehaviors”, didn’t touch Medicaid, spent time and resources to search and bring to fruition their dreams, paid for it and were at rest believing they have done the necessary to avoid trouble in the future. Suddenly that same peace is being taken from them, this is somehow.

I remember seeing some Hugo Boss suits I liked like mad selling for about 650 and I was trying to do my calculations on buying two, my US host who is pretty loaded laughed at me and advised that I exercise some patience till I get a good deal, in about three months after or so, he called me and said it was selling for about 350 each. On the weekend of purchase, he got 2 for that 350 as there was BOGOF. That should have been about 1300, and I did rock them suits like they were 1300. What am I saying? Discounts are well known to the Americans and us visitors too. Why will our people be punished for using discounts? I understand this is another sector anyways, but we are in the dark on this, we need some quality light.

If there’s one time this thread needed to hear from @LagosNIV and @AbujaNIV, that should have been now, an out of the blue clarification from them would have sufficed.... I will appeal to them and ask others to join in that appeal too, to please do justice to this matter (just help do this and take a relaxing break once more please), let there be equity.

What exactly is the position of things dear @LagosNIV and @AbujaNIV please?

Is it true this happening is a peculiar to Nigeria and not general?

What’s the “annoyance”, what are we doing wrong?

Is this above 10k standard we are setting for ourselves needed at all?

Will it even count soonest after now?

Are the authorities enjoying the darkness this has put innocent applicants in or what? I doubt.

Bring in some light please we plead with thee sirs!

On the VOs thread, though I didn’t ask the questions exactly like this (some bit of modification), below is their response thus far, we can go ask further questions if not satisfied or clearly understood (I myself fall in this category despite going over the HOWEVER part of the response over and over as I mostly see a pre-interview situation therein instead of post-birthing).

“Hello ctrlunlimited and OmoBendel24,

Our policy is the same as it has always been. We ask all applicants to be honest about their intended activities in the United States, and the interviewing officer must be satisfied that the applicants can afford the kind of travel they are planning. This includes prospective students, business travelers, tourists, and those seeking medical care, and it applies to everyone around the world, regardless of nationality.

If you visit our website at https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/tourism-visit/visitor.html, you will see that receiving medical care in the United States on a B1/B2 visa is legal. However, the website also states that applicants must demonstrate that they can afford to pay the "doctors’ fees, hospitalization fees, and all medical-related expenses". Though every situation is different, accepting discounts or paying less than the full amount can raise questions about the applicant's finances, credibility, and their intent and ability to pay for the full cost of their care.”

What i can deduce is
1) have a fat bank account
2) take no discount or payment adjustment
3)make sure your bill is an average of what is
quoted for an insured patient
Hope dey know 10,000 dollar bill in 2014 was 1.55m and is now 3.6m

There is a new one i heard VO asked “madam do you consent to a pregnancy test” its officially “hot”
Lets be on d lookout for those who get pregnant 2 days before the interview grin

Lol. But to be fair, most of us dont even know theres a discount or adjustment till you see the itemized bill. You get and hospital and you ask them for price. They tell you they have an OB package for self pay patients. They give you the bill and you pay. Even give a zero balance letter. Is was until we started asking for itemized bill that we got to know there were adjustments. Rather than refuse visas, they should rather put a warning for people not to accept hospitals below a certain rate.

Discount is an excuse being used by the US Embassy. Discounts are not govt subsidized and are available to all non-insured self paying patient whether they are local or international.

Thank you o. The bottom line is they are trying to clap back on birth tourism. Reduce it to the barerest minimum and would only grant to those who will pay heavily for it.

Thanks for this feedback . Well its obvious they dint answer the main issue here. Most of us presented thesame discounted letter during previous pregnancy and visa was approved , so why has that changed . It's like they are setting a trap for us to fall into.
Well as someone said here . It's their country and their rules o. It's just to have an open mind if visa is approved or not.

You need to get the baby birth certificate first at Vital record and the baby SSN at the social security administration office . But the SSN card will be delivered to your address.

This are the two most important documents you need to apply for passport. If your husband is there with you, both of must appear for the baby passport application.
