Nigerians we should not think about ourselves only, but others around us, that's why we do lack knowledge.

I dont know why people will call someone with 50 million dollars(not naira o) poor. If that is the case, then anyone who is not in the top100 richest is also poor.
I used the word POOR not from my own perspective but from the OP perspective. He tried to compare his fortune with others like Facebook owner. Thereby, saying that he's broke gave complete different meaning to his message.

Don't mind the OP, Sir Tim Berners-Lee is worth $50 million and is currently a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Oxford. He is also a senior researcher at MIT. So the man is definitely not broke.
At the rate Nigerian bloggers are going, Google will stop approving AdSense for them so they can look for something else meaningful to do other than embellishing fact.

If you consider what he would have made as the inventor of the internet to $50m, I think you'd understand the OP's point.

which point does the op have ?

How is someone worth $50m broke?

Are some of our celebrity worth that much, can you say they're broke Are?

The Internet invention can not be attributed to any single person. This technology was delivered at the right time in space to humans so we can document our entire memories and history prior to what is to come.

We are being changed.

Tim Berners-Lee is a name that almost no one in America recognizes. He invented the World Wide Web almost single-handedly and that’snot even the most amazing aspect of his life. Inventing the World Wide Web would conservatively make anyone with even some business sense a billionaire, and someone who truly maintained ownership of it and rented access, domain names and the ability to traffic information through it could have theoretically become a trillionaire. Tim Berners-Lee chose instead to give the innovation of Hyper Text Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and the World Wide Web to society with no strings attached.

The inventor of the World Wide Web

Here are three ways Tim Berners-Lee could have become the wealthiest person in the World by a factor of more than 10.

Op STOP misleading people with your title, there's a difference between the internet and the world wide web protocol. This guy only invented the www protocol.

Broke in what sense? This is someone that's fulfilled. I don't like the way most Nigerian bloggers do their thing.

Then why Facebook didn't invent it for free

Then why Facebook didn't invent it for free

Facebook was invented for free. They started making advertisement money on it after many years when it has become successful. If they had started charging money on it from the start, it won't be successful as it is. I suggest you watch the movie: Social Network. Especially the part where the Napster guy advised Mark Zuckerberg against monetizing Facebook early on. Mark was wise to heed his advice. And it's a true story made into a film.

Now Tim is not a businessman. His primary motive is not to become a billionaire. He's a lecturer. His motive is to conduct research and make discoveries that will add up to the knowledge base of their field and also help mankind, unlike Nigerian lecturers that only teach and teach without adding any new knowledge to their field. The man achieved his goal. And he should be respected and appreciated.

True . but he might really not get it commercialized successfully . Seun has done well with Nairaland, but you will all agree that the amount of business deal going on on Nairaland without his knowledge will be so much that if he charge a percentage for every successful deal, he will be among worlds richest.
I'm sure this man to made some money , but his invention outgrows him
imagine him doing just escrow service using nairaland... Taking some percentage.

His invention outgrew him because he isn't so smart at the business.
If Mark Zuckerberg or Google founders invented it,there's no way they'll not be trillionaires

That's not why. He couldn't put price on the WWW because it was an invention and nobody would want to pay for it. There were other ways for him to earn from it though which he did.
