With $5,000, I'd most likely go for Toyota Corolla (2008 model). It's a durable car and very economical in gas consumption.

PS: The spare parts are very easy to access and pocket friendly.

It's around $5000. Yes, it's a car a close uses and I know it serves him pretty well.
