@POLITICSNGR Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is to intervene in the lingering crisis between herdsmen and farmers in Benue as its ad hoc Committee on Security and Infrastructure has arrived in the State to meet with traditional rulers from affected local governments. Revealing this mission at Benue People's House, Makurdi today, leader of the Senate delegation and Majority Leader of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan conveyed the condolences of the Senate President and the 8th Senate to the people of Benue over the mass murder of innocent citizens of the state. The Majority Leader revealed that the security apparatus of the country was not well structured, leaving room for the current security lapses that the nation is facing but noted that the Senate Ad Hoc Committee on Security and Infrastructure was formed as a direct response to the challenge of incessant killings and would find a way of addressing the infrastructural deficits of affected communities. Senator Lawan said the 9-man Senate Committee was in the state to review the crisis at hand and report back to the Senate on Tuesday 16th January, 2018 during plenary saying the primary duty of every government was the protection of lives and property. The Senate Majority Leader said the Senate would not sit back to watch citizens of the nation perish adding that though the security agencies were doing their best, the Senate feels there were avoidable deficiencies, hence, the need to come out with a stronger security architecture for the nation and sued for cooperation to ensure the attack on Benue remained the last of such wickedness in Nigeria as no foreign or domestic investor would make progress where there are obvious security threats. In his response, Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom thanked the Senate President and the entire 8th Senate for taking this proactive step to intervene in the crisis that has lingered since 2011 and destroyed thousands of lives and billions property of the Benue citizenry. Governor Ortom thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for responding to the cry of Benue by relocating the the Inspector General of Police to Benue and deploying more troops to ensure Benue Citizens have peace saying at least no more life has been lost in four days. The Governor said his administration has sworn to rule with integrity and has done so much to bring peace by disarming youths that had possessed arms illegally. The Benue Governor revealed that he was under threat from his people who were seeking to protect themselves against the invaders who have been attacking the state since 2011 without arrests save endless police investigations. He maintained that population explosion has put pressure on land and it was impossible to allow the cohabitation of open grazing and farming and sued for the arrest of the leadership of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore who threatened, masterminded and launched attacks on defenceless Benue citizens killing over 70 persons. Also speaking, Senator Dr. George Akume, Senator Barnabas Gemade and former Attorney General of the Federation, Chief Mike Aondokaa (SAN) called for workable measures that will end the crisis once and for all. https://politicsngr.com/senate-intervenes-benue-crisis-meets-ortom-traditional-rulersphotos/

These men better think of what's best for their sons and daughters when they reach a verdict in this meeting. Let no tribe intimidate another with violence. Every man has a beast in him if pushed to certain limits. 1 Like |

only God can save Nigerians from these politicians on a normal ground, if we have proactive Parliaments the securities officers would be sanction and question on Benue crisis we are taking posterior steps to all obvious intending crisis mostly and that's why things was this bad in Nigeria when other countries who are looking upto Nigeria as giant of Africa has no inter ethnic crisis, the suppose mumu of Africa country is bent on ending crisis when we ought to be discussing about development 1 Like 1 Share |

Both sides have refused to sheath their swords with the pastoralists flexing their federal-backed might on the poor, defenceless people of the "food basket". The effrontery with which the pastoralists advance their gazetted grazing route in the 21st century Nigeria is perplexing to say the least. A repeal of the anti-open grazing law will only lend credence to the bullying tactics of the herdsmen and further embolden them in their quest to have a domineering say in our affairs. Dele Momudu succinctly expressed our frustration thus: "A government that rode into power on the supersonic jet of goodwill of the people is barely struggling to survive a swim in the gutter of ill-wind." Professor Wole Soyinka equally irked by the impunity with which the pastoralists operates Said "These herdsmen, arrogant and unconscionable, have adopted a scorched-earth policy, so that those other producers – the cassava, cocoa, sorghum, rice etc farmers are brutally expelled from farm and dwelling. This question is now current, and justified: just when is terror? I am not aware that IPOB came anywhere close to this homicidal propensity and will to dominance before it was declared a terrorist organization." 8 Likes 3 Shares

after all said and done after all the outcry against fulani herds men and the lukewarm attitude of the govt to stem the genocide let us ask our selves where are the David Marks the Barnabas Germades where are the political heavy weights of benue where is our Vp where is C.A.N why can they not speak now that their voices are needed more than ever during the crisis in numa, the Sultan himself spoke against killings what if big business men or christains in the North buy cattles in d very large number and ranch them. over time we would not have need for cows that these fulani are using to get inroute into people's ancestral lands the silence is too loud this calls for sober reflection |

Chukazu: You are probably correct. When Agatu happened and David Mark visited the area, he was shot at by the terrorists occupying the area. He was lucky to have come out alive. His silence this time is worrying. Only diffence though is that he did not join these guys in installing this government that have since abandoned the people while protecting the attackers. Tell me why the miyetti leadership are still issuing threats of further attacks and government has not attested them! 1 Like 2 Shares |

The fifty two Fulani women and children that were massacred in November last year in Numan were not properly aired and their burials was not announced, simply because they don't have a governor, and they are left to their faiths as they deserve to die as their life is valueless in the society no any agency condemn the genocide against them, no state burial. The enemies of President Mohammadu Buhari and the Nigeria at large must value the life of all Nigerians equally for peace to reign. Unfortunately, some people claimed to be socialists, social media activists, CSOs and all other bunch of idiots have kept quite simply because they want Baba Buhari to fail and get some one that will be giving them material benefits for criticising gov't . 1 Like 1 Share
