Beijing is gaining more influence every day in Africa's largest economy. To the point of worrying the Western powers, first and foremost the United States.

If the Nigerian writer Wole Soyinka meets you in Abeokuta, his hometown, there is a good chance he will do it in a Chinese restaurant. “It's the best of the city,“ he says as if this “champion of the African cause” felt obscurely the need to justify himself.

In his home state, the Ogun, in southwestern China, the Chinese are everywhere. Starting with the field of construction where they cut cruppers to European groups, traditional partners of Nigeria, like the German Julius Berger who made his fortune in building in the country.

In Lagos, the economic capital of the country, it is difficult to spend a day without being in contact with Chinese, in the popular neighborhoods as well as in the better-off. Unlike other countries on the continent, they are not confined to Chinatowns and circulate everywhere.

Bang DE DE deng!!!

These people only come to steal from us to develop their country. With all the Chinese in Nigeria why are we still backward?.

We are only after oil, and they (Asians) come to illegally mine our gold, diamond and other rich natural resources we have. The most painful part is we give them handshakes and thumbs up and congratulate them for stealing from us.
