What prompted me to write in this? A week ago, I got a call from a man who wanted to know if we had Mud Terrain Tyres. We do. What surprised me was I didn't know people knew about the different tyre types and that some people change their car tyres as the seasons change. Even though we try to teach our customers about the tyre types and what's best to use with their cars, depending on the purpose the car serves (public transportation, private use), and what terrain it is mostly used on ( mud, dust roads, tarred roads, rocky areas...etc ). Today, I'll be briefly writing on the different types of car tyres. Some are applicable to Nigeria, while others are not.

MUD TYRES

If you always go off-road, or live in wet areas with muddy terrains, then you need the right equipment. Mud tyres offer exceptional grip in even the stickiest and slipperiest of situations with their rugged design and aggressive tread. The tyres are significantly bigger and chunkier than the standard tyre that you would expect to find on a vehicle. They are specifically designed to withstand especially muddy terrains. If you live or work in an environment where the ground is like this then mud tyres are exactly what you need.
The tread on these types of tyres are a lot different to normal tyres.
At Infinity Tyres, we know that the right mud tyre is the difference between getting stuck in the mud and moving forward, and so we’ve got a wide range of mud-busters to fit any budget or vehicle.
Note: These tyres should never be used on other road surfaces other than mud.

ALL TERRAIN TYRES

All-terrain tyres are typically used on SUVs and light trucks. They are larger tyres with stiffer sidewalls and bigger tread block patterns. The larger tread block means the tyres are very noisy on normal roads but grip loose sand and dirt very well when you take the car or truck off-road. As well as the noise, the larger tread block pattern means less tyre surface in contact with the road. The rubber compound used in these tyres is normally middle-of-the-road - neither soft nor hard.

ALL SEASON TYRES

These tyres are what you'll typically find on every production car that comes out of a factory. The reason for this is because these cars are going to be shipped all over the world, so there is no way to ensure that the tyres are suitable for different climates. However, with all season tyres this is not a problem because they are specifically designed to cope with many different environments.
They're designed to be a compromise between grip, performance, longevity, noise and wet-weather safety. For increased tyre life, they are made with a harder rubber compound, which sacrifices outright grip and cornering performance. For the majority of drivers, this isn't an issue. The tread block design is normally a compromise between quiet running and water dispersion - the tyre should not be too noisy in normal use but should work fairly well in downpours and on wet roads. All-season tyres are neither excellent dry-weather, nor excellent wet-weather tyres, but are, at best, a compromise.

They are basically the commonest car tyre types in use.

PERFORMANCE TYRES

If you drive a fast car then it is very likely that you will be using performance or summer tyres. These types of tyres are specifically designed for those who drive hard and fast. Performance tyres are designed for faster cars or for people who prefer to drive harder than the average consumer. They typically put performance and grip ahead of longevity by using a softer rubber compound. Tread block design is normally biased towards outright grip rather than the ability to pump water out of the way on a wet road. The extreme example of performance tyres are "slicks" used in motor racing, so-called because they have no tread at all.
