FEC Approves $6.7b Ibadan To Kaduna Rail Line. by Nobody: 9:12pm On Feb 21, 2018
The Federal Executive Council, FEC, has approved a memo presented by the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, for the construction of a rail line from Ibadan, Oyo State, to Kaduna.
Mr. Amaechi, who addressed State House correspondents after the meeting held inside the council chamber of the presidential villa, said the rail project “will cost $6.7 billion, with a completion period of three years.”
Also speaking, FCT minister, Mohammed Bello said FEC gave two approvals to the Federal Capital Territory.
The first, he said, is the award of supply of chemicals to FCT water companies at the cost of N273 million and the reconstruction of Bill Clinton Drive, Airport road, “ which has started showing sign of failure after 20 years at the cost of N1.9 billion with seven months completion.”

$6.7 billion....! mmm how will this be funded? Who is the contractor? Is this captured in 2018 budget? Hope it not a white elephant for 2019.

It'll be funded by Chinese exim bank... but what's the economic value or importance of the rail line? We have an ongoing Lagos-Kano rail line that'll pass through Ibadan all d way to Kano. Kano-kaduna rail line is also ongoing, what's d usefulness of this rail line??

What is on-going is the Lagos-Ibadan section of the Lagos-Kano railway modernization project to convert the existing narrow gauge to standard gauge. This must be the Ibadan - Kaduna section of the project

The existing narrow gauge track is untouched, they are laying new tracks for the new project. I believe the old tracks will be used specifically for movement of goods (cargo).
