Good morning Nairalanders , especially doctors in the house. I have a very serious case of bad mouth odour that has persisted for a long time, at least 8years.

Sometimes I have to brush as many as three to four times a day and bad enough, it will still be there.

Occasionally, I remove some yellowish smelly stuffs from my throat and after sometimes I see them again. Also of late, I have persistent headaches even without fever, even when I wake in the morning expecting to be refreshed, the ache will still be there. I don't know if these are related.

I am in my late 20s and this has affected my life in ways space will not permit me to write. I just cannot function well anywhere because I cannot talk for fear of the odour. My social life is zero, and I am almost always alone.

Please advice me if you have or know someone who has experienced this, or you are an expert or you know something I can do to be free from this. Its so bad its the only item on my new year prayer. I don't want to spend another year in this. Thank you all in anticipation.

op, there was a time someone in these forum recommended alum and salt, that's for example , boil water pour it inside cup add a little alum and salt and brush for like 2 weeks, it can be morning and evening, just try it, I believed it will work because alum helps in purification!

Halitosis/bad breath is usually caused by bacteria in the mouth, one of the surest way of dealing with it is to deny the bacteria the enabling environment for thriving by preventing them from having their survival factor- Nutrients. Never ever go to bed without brushing your teeth, and ensure that while brushing you don't quickly rinse your mouth, this is to enable the flouride content of the toothpaste to have ample contact time with your gum, teeth and tongue.

As for the headache there might be an underlying cause except if you have a family history of migraine. Try taking Cafergot (ergotamine) for a while and observe the changes.

Do u have a hole in any tooth? If u do go fill it up, if you dont go see your doctor. Eat fruits most especially cucumber, banana, wash ur tongue well too. The head ache i think you should see a doctor fast, a friends junior brother uusually complain of headaches too til it started affecting his eyes, we took him to d hospital and they had to scan his skull, tthey found out his brain was swelling (that was d cause of d headache). Please we all should be careful of gadgets that causes radiation nd stuffs, its killin us gradually.

But i think the problem of your mouth odor is not from your tooth so brushing them 100 times wont chanhe anything.

You're suffering from tonsil stones, this trapped debris hardens, or calcifies. This tends to happen most often in people who have chronic inflammation in their tonsils or repeated bouts of tonsillitis.

The white milky stuff in your throat is the cause of your issue. That stuff smells more than feaces. (No exaggeration)

Halitosis aka Bad breath can be cured by excess cleansing of d mouth to rid d bacteria build up or taking mints... Go c a dentist for more inquiry.

You can get those smelling stones that drops from your throat with warm water and salt .gather the water around your throat for one minute. Do that for three days morning and night. Then for the mouth odour extract fresh ginger and take a shot morning and night for two weeks . If there is no improvenent please get a specialist. All the best.

But the throat discharges might be another infection of something in your throat which might add to it.

I would advice you see and ENT. Ear nose throat doctor and buy some antibacterial throat sprays until you go which they should sell at a good pharmacist. You are doing everything possible so take heart although it'll be hard to say don't be embarrassed because I'm not in your shoes.
Please let us know your location so I can ask my ENT who he recommends or book an appointment at a teaching hospital to see their ENT if this is possible.

You probably have bn seeing yeye Doctors cos I don't know how you will present with such signs and symptoms and it's only Antibiotics they can think of.... My advice for you is to visit General or more preferably teaching hospital (they have all the specialists you need),i don't know where you stay but you can ask questions about the hospitals before visiting...Teaching hospital will so waste your time sha but at the end it will be worth the wait

From people's experiences, gargling vigorously with salt water may help dislodge tonsil stones. It can also help get rid of the odor caused by tonsil stones. Dissolve half teaspoon salt in a small cup of warm water, and gargle.

You can also gargle with Apple cider vinegar. it helps break down the stones and dissolve them. Add a tablespoon or two of the vinegar to a 1/4 cup of warm water and mix and then gargle. Do this a few times daily for the best results.

Antibiotics can also help with the tonsil stones and sinusitis. But you shouldn't just go and buy any antibiotics. See a dentist or ENT specialist first for proper guidance.

Sorry Brotherly... I only wish you well. I will advice you visit the hospital and run test to ascertain what could be the cause of the mouth odour. Also, limit on what you eat... Take more of refreshing vegetables like mint leaves. Get a good mouth spread to help subdue till you find a better option that will be permanent.
Concerning the frequency of headache whenever you wake up from sleep, I can be point that to be as a result of Snoring habit. In all, I will advice you go to the hospital for proper diagnosis and treatment. Stay bless and get well soon.

I truly feel for you! Please try and leave your toothpaste in your mouth for about 30 minutes before brushing it off. Do this in the morning and at night before going to bed.
It also helps to put a bit of Bicarbonate soda in your toothpaste. Mind you, the Bicarbonate Soda should not be in your mouth for more than 2 minutes before rinsing it off. Lastly, use mouthwash after brushing instead of water.

Nigerians like to find solutions in the wrong places. Your best bet is to visit a teaching hospital close to you and see an ENT (ear, nose, and throat) specialist. The persistent headache calls for urgent medical attention, and it could be linked with the mouth odour. I suspect an ongoing infection or malignancy. See the specialists ASAP before it's too late. NL isn't a hospital.
