The Hollywood movie, Black Panther, may have grossed over $700 million worldwide, but one of the less known facts about the film is that a 400-year-old Nigerian language, Nsibidi, was one of the two languages that inspired Wakanda’s language.

Wakanda is a fictional country and was used as the location in some parts of the movie.

Nsibidi or Nsibiri is an ancient writing script formerly used in parts of Cross River. It was used repeatedly through the course of the movie as the language of the fictional Wakanda kingdom.
