In a Premier League match as big and historic as Liverpool vs. Manchester United, there\'s always going to be a plethora of interesting facts waiting to be dug up.

For example, did you know that in this fixture, both teams have won the same number of games at home? (38).

Without further ado, here are seven interesting facts you (probably) didn\'t know about the match on Saturday

1. Manchester United Got Thrashed in First Match vs. Liverpool
In their first ever competitive match against Liverpool—which was at Anfield—Manchester United (known as Newton Heath at the time) lost 7-1.

On the 12th October, 1895, Thomas Bradshaw, Frank Becton and Fred Geary all scored doubles for the Reds, while Jimmy Ross added another, as Joe Cassidy scored a consolation goal for Newton Heath.

William E. Barclay, who had previously managed Everton, was manager for Liverpool, coaching the team alongside club secretary John McKenna. Alf Albut was in the dugout for Newton Heath.

2. They Got Revenge in the Next Game, Though

In the first match between the sides at Manchester United\'s home, which was Bank Street at the time, the team got revenge on Liverpool as they ran out 5-2 winners.

James Peters was the star of the show that day, scoring a hat trick, while John Clarkin and Dick Smith also got in on the act.

It was the match that would go on to set a long trend of historic rivalries between the two sides, with both teams being dominant on their own grounds.

3. United Beat Liverpool in Their Neighbour\'s Back Yard

Manchester United beat Liverpool 5-0 in a First Division clash back in 1946, and did so in the back yard of their neighbours and bitter rivals Manchester City.

Old Trafford was destroyed during the Second World War, meaning United had to share ground with City.

The match was one of the games that really proved Sir Matt Busby as a manager and showed everyone his Busby Babes meant business.

Stan Pearson was the star of the show that day, Wednesday, 11 September, 1946, scoring a hat trick as United won their first game against Liverpool in six years, with the war meaning no games were played between the two sides in that time.

4. Sir Matt Busby Played for Liverpool

The man who has been the most influential in Manchester United\'s history made more than 100 appearances as a player for their bitter rivals.

He scored three goals in 115 games for the Reds, and also played for United\'s other huge rivals Manchester City, where he won an FA Cup title and made more than 200 appearances.

He could\'ve also managed Liverpool, having been offered a job as assistant manager, but he went to Manchester United instead, as they allowed him more control over the team.

5. 11 Goals Once Scored in This Fixture

On Wednesday, 25 March, 1908 at Anfield, Liverpool beat Manchester United 7-4, in a game between the two sides that has yet to be beaten for goals.

Bill McPherson scored a hat trick for the Reds, while George Wall got a double for United.

Ten thousand people were at Anfield to watch the Division One clash, with Liverpool getting revenge for a 4-0 defeat they suffered against United earlier in the season.

6. Three Goals Are Scored in This Game on Average

On average, three goals are scored every time Manchester United and Liverpool play each other.

Overall, United have scored 252 goals against Liverpool, while the Merseyside club have netted 235 against their Manchester counterparts.

However, only three times in the last 18 matches between the sides at Anfield have there been just three goals scored in the game.

On average, four goals a game have been scored in the last 20 Liverpool-Manchester United fixtures at Anfield.

7. Bad History Could Be Made for Manchester United

Manchester United have never lost four games in a row away from home against any team in Premier League history.

United have lost to Liverpool in their last three visits to Anfield.

Could it be fourth time unlucky for the Red Devils on Saturday?
