The criteria for admission in south west is of high standard and very high. To study medicine in UI, Unilag and OAU, you need to have a Jamb score of at least 300 with excellent grade in O level result.

The same OAU I know very well or another... Anyways cut off for medicine in OAU is 280 for non staff. For staff members and depending on your connect, you can get admitted with as low as 240.

I can list some of the best professors of medicine in OAU, who are also igbos.

I would maintain the cut off point to gain admission to the mentioned universities is on the high side

Your revisionist journalists and fake yoruba statisticians have been lying to you that you yorubas are better than Igbo in education for donkey years before the social media became popular. Those were just 'make me happy' tales. The number of out-of-school children in osun and oyo combined is more than those in the SE and SS put together.

It's time you embraced the truth that you Igbos are far more educated than you for the sake of your health. grin

Yes, medicine cut off at 280 is high but a lot of igbos are still gaining admission to study medicine, pharmarcy, dentistry and physiotherapy in OAU. Physio's cut off I think is 250. Pharmacy is 270/289 depending on the year. My family friend got admitted to Law with 220, his dad is a staff member and they are igbos too. Tech's cut off too is 250 above.

There is virtually no department where you dont find Igbos in numbers in OAU, but You have them more in law, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and engineering in OAU

Yes, OAU students are on this forum, they will tell you..

Please read the topic again and your initial statement I quoted.
The topic was all about the numbers in medical school. I'm a Deltan, born and raised.Visit Delta state before arguing what you know nothing about.
Ben Okri is an Urhobo man. Okri means he goat in Urhobo.

Let me educate you further. Medicine is a course that required high intellect hence people with high intelligence pass and get admission on merit. That fact is reflected on the JAMB statistics. A further look at the distribution of high flying Deltans in various professions also point to the fact that a greater percentage of them are Anioma. One can easily draw the inference even in the absence of raw data that Anioma people lead other Deltans in admission into Medicine.

Empirical evidence suggests that while the Anioma part of Delta leads in education, innovation and enterprise, the others lead in pipeline vandslisation, militancy and amnesty accruals.

Are Anioma people also the reason why Edo state ranks high?

In the North, for example, the Hausa-Fulani have always been the most Ethnocentric, suspicious of cultural penetration nd economic competition from the south, protective of deeply ingrained traditional institutions, united by discipline of their Muslim religion, and strongly resistance to change in their theocratic emirate system of political rule. Despite the history of their dominance in the federation, the North has largely segregated themselves from the rest of the nation, remainded the most insular region in the country and became resentful of the progress being made modernization of the southern region.

brother i am not trying to discredit the fact that yoruba race value education. My point is this:virtually every Yoruba individual believes without classroom education that success is out of reach that is why every yoruba strife by any means ,even though its requires dubious means to earn a certificate. And Nigeria factor(corrupt educational system) has assisted and made this few people from your tribe that crave for classroom education to easily earn a degree dubiously without willing to make the needed sacrifice. Please i know your tribe has erudite that earn there degree genuinely but because of your people's mentality of no degree no success even those that are not really ready to commit to classroom education try all means possible to get there degree fraudulently.

A wrong notion, not all Yoruba believe that's the only way to success.

As at then where there was deficit, there was that believe. when I was a teenager in the early 2000s almost all of us were put under apprenticeship, I ran away from there though. Check almost everywhere, the thinking is that you must have vocational skills even if you want to further.

Educational malpractice I hope you know is more rampant in eastern tertiary institution, it was in nekede I first heard the word 'sorting' before hearing same at Alvan down to umuagwo.

Yes we value education but the trend as we speak now is to learn a trade first after secondary school especially if your family is not that buoyant.

At first the igbos entered the urban enviroment as traders, shopkeepers, clerks, skilled workers amd domestic employees. They rose into white collar positions in a short time, soon to cultivate an intellectual elite constiting of educators, Journalist, professionals and businessmen. They formed mutual beneficts, credit societies and improvement organisations, which had ties with their rural homeland. An Igbo union was formed in Lagos in 1934 and later expanded to become Igbo federal union (subsequently the Igbo state union) in 1944 to include all local Igbo associations throughout the country. Frequently, the "improvement" or "progressive" associations as they were called functioned as organs of local self government, providing ad hoc courts to settle disputes, supplying members with welfare benefits and employment opportunities, levying taxes and generator command civil spirit. Igbos absorbed western education as readily as they responded to modernisation. Although the Yoruba's led the thrust for education because of their advantage of first contact with the british, the igbos since 1930 have shot ahead. By late 1940s, the disparity between the Yoruba's and the igbos had virtually disappeared. There were nearly as many igbos students (115) as Yoruba's (118) in the University College ibadan by 1952. Many igbos studies abroad principally the U.S.A in contrast to the Yoruba's who tended to favour the U.K. More than two-third(2/3) of Nigerian students studying in the U.S.A were of Igbo origin until the late 1940s

This is what ohaneze Ndi Igbo is all about, which Deji of akure and this insecured Yoruba likes, intepreted as having another king in his kingdom.. Igbo associations outside igboland are for mutual benefits, protection of interest and settling of disputes. We don't and have never intended to subdue local indigenes to take over their land or rule over them as being seen with the Hausa Fulani.

Nigeria’s foremost novelist Chinua Achebe
has claimed that Nigerians, especially of the
Hausa/Fulani and the Yoruba stocks, do not
like his Igbo ethnic group because of the
southeast’s cultural advantage.
He made this claim in his new book, There
was a Country, which has generated
controversy for his onslaught on the role of
Obafemi Awolowo as the federal
commissioner of finance during the Nigeria
civil war. He accused Awolowo of genocide
and imposition of food blockade on Biafra, a
claim that has drawn rebuttals and
contradictions of emotional intensity from
some southwest leaders and commentators.
“I have written in my small book entitled
The Trouble with Nigeria that Nigerians will
probably achieve consensus on no other
matter than their common resentment of
the Igbo,” he wrote under the heading, A
History of Ethnic Tension and Resentment.
He traced the origin of “the national
resentment of the Igbo” to its culture that
“gave the Igbo man an unquestioned
advantage over his compatriots in securing
credentials for advancement in Nigerian
colonial society.”
He observed that the Igbo culture’s
emphasis on change, individualism and
competitiveness gave his ethnic group an
edge over the Hausa/Fulani man who was
hindered by a “wary religion” and the Yoruba
man who was hampered by” traditional
hierarchies.”
He therefore described the Igbo, who are
predominantly Catholic, as “fearing no god
or man, was “custom-made to grasp the
opportunities, such as they were, of the
white man’s dispensations. And the Igbo did
so with both hands.”
He delved into history with his claim,
asserting that the Igbo overcame the earlier
Yoruba advantage within two decades earlier
in the twentieth century.
“Although the Yoruba had a huge historical
and geographical head start, the Igbo wiped
out their handicap in one fantastic burst of
energy in the twenty years between 1930
and 1950.”
He narrated the earlier advantage of Yoruba
as contingent on their location on the
coastline, but once the missionaries crossed
the Niger, the Igbo took advantage of the
opportunity and overtook the Yoruba.
‘The increase was so exponential in such a
short time that within three short decades
the Igbos had closed the gap and quickly
moved ahead as the group with the highest
literacy rate, the highest standard of living,
and the greatest of citizens with
postsecondary education in Nigeria,” he
contended.
He said Nigerian leadership should have
taken advantage of the gbo talent and this
failure was partly responsible for the failure
of the Nigerian state, explaining further that
competitive individualism and the
adventurous spirit of the Igbo was a boon
Nigerian leaders failed to recognize and
harness for modernization.
“Nigeria’s pathetic attempt to crush these
idiosyncrasies rather than celebrate them is
one of the fundamental reasons the country
has not developed as it should and has
emerged as a laughingstock,” he claimed.
He noted that the ousting of prominent
Igbos from top offices was a ploy to achieve
a simple and crude goal. He said what the
Nigerians wanted was to “get the achievers
out and replace them with less qualified
individuals from the desired ethnic
background so as to gain access to the
resources of the state.”
Achebe, however, saved some criticisms for
his kinsmen. He criticised them for what he
described as “hubris, overweening pride and
thoughtlessness, which invite envy and
hatred or even worse that can obsess the
mind with material success and dispose it to
all kinds of crude showiness.”

Ooh, It has changed from high flying professionals to international achievers.By all standards these are great professionals. Please use Google a bit more.

Ojaide has won major national and international poetry awards, including the
Commonwealth Poetry Prize for the Africa region (1987), the BBC Arts and Africa Poetry Award (1988), the All-Africa Okigbo Prize for Poetry (1988 and 1997), the Association of Nigerian Authors ' Poetry Prize (1988, 1994, 2003 and 2011) [1] and the Fonlon-Nichols Award. [2] In 2016, Ojaide won the Nigerian National Order of Merit award, the apex and the most important award for scholastic excellence in Nigeria.

Keep deceiving yourself and swim in ignorance like most Igbos. The old Bendel state was one of the most educated state with Binis,Urhobos at the forefront. Please worry less about Aniomas who deny relationship with igbo and identify more with their Bini ancestry, you should be more concerned about your uneducated cousins in rivers state and Ebonyi
